Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Planning Engineer in United States.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of large-scale metro core transport networks within a fast-evolving telecommunications environment. As a senior-level engineering expert, you will lead strategic planning, capacity optimization, and infrastructure expansion initiatives that directly support network scalability, reliability, and performance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across planning, provisioning, operations, and construction to ensure seamless execution of transport solutions for complex markets. The position combines technical leadership with data-driven decision-making, enabling you to influence long-term architecture strategies and capital efficiency initiatives. Working in a remote-first environment, you will contribute to innovative network transformation programs while mentoring peers and driving operational excellence. This is an ideal opportunity for a transport planning professional who thrives in high-impact, technically challenging environments.
- Develop and execute transport capacity plans across Metro Core and local IOF networks, including DWDM, Ethernet/ECN, Wave, and HRM-managed routes.
- Analyze network utilization, wave path trends, and headroom metrics to proactively identify and address capacity risks and augmentation needs.
- Initiate and manage network build orders, optimization activities, grooming efforts, and decomposition projects in collaboration with tactical transport teams.
- Support complex customer delivery planning, pre-sale and post-sale network design, and FT3 estimating across multiple telecommunications environments.
- Lead network optimization and simplification initiatives, including fiber recovery, ring balancing, harvesting activities, and cost-reduction strategies.
- Maintain compliance with Metro Wave Headroom standards and contribute to jeopardy reduction and enterprise TID review processes.
- Collaborate with strategic planning and capital teams to support long-term investment strategies, forecasting, and transport architecture planning.
- Coordinate with vendors, supply chain, and engineering teams for technology deployment, equipment forecasting, and infrastructure build programs.
- Serve as a technical mentor and escalation point for planning engineers, providing guidance on planning standards, tools, and complex network designs.
- Participate in urgent planning initiatives and evolving network transformation programs impacting metro core transport operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Network Architecture, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of experience in transport network planning, capacity engineering, or large-scale telecommunications network design.
- Strong expertise in DWDM, optical transport systems, Metro Core architectures, Ethernet/ECN, and HRM-managed networks.
- Proven experience managing network augmentation projects, build orders, and optimization initiatives within complex telecom environments.
- Ability to analyze network performance trends and translate data into actionable capacity planning strategies.
- Experience collaborating across planning, provisioning, operations, construction, and vendor management teams.
- Familiarity with Wave Path Trending, FT3 estimating, TID review processes, and regulatory-driven planning initiatives such as E911.
- Strong understanding of network simplification strategies, fiber harvesting, and capital efficiency programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information to executive and operational stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and leadership abilities with the capability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Fully remote work opportunity within the United States.
- Competitive salary with location-based compensation ranging approximately from $84,629 to $124,122 annually.
