The role of a professional driver in the transportation and warehousing industry is critical to ensuring the safe and timely delivery of goods across various locations within the United States. This position involves operating commercial vehicles to transport freight, adhering to all federal and state regulations, and maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency. The driver will be responsible for planning routes, managing schedules, and communicating effectively with dispatchers and clients to ensure smooth operations. Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) appropriate for the vehicle class being operated.
- Clean driving record with no recent major violations or accidents.
- Ability to pass DOT physical examination and drug screening.
- Knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) rules.
- Experience operating commercial vehicles in a professional capacity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and GPS navigation systems.
- Familiarity with freight handling and securing cargo properly.
- Customer service experience to effectively interact with clients and warehouse staff.
- Additional endorsements on CDL such as Hazmat, Tanker, or Doubles/Triples.
- Ability to perform minor vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities:
- Operate commercial vehicles safely and efficiently to transport goods to designated locations.
- Plan and follow the most efficient routes while complying with all traffic laws and regulations.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and maintenance standards are met.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, vehicle inspections, and delivery records in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Communicate proactively with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and customers regarding delivery status and any issues encountered during transit.
