JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of a Cardiologist, performs those duties directly involved with a variety of special technical procedures performed with the Ultrasound unit. Assists in training of Technologists, ancillary personnel and students assigned within the department. Activates repairs and controls work progress within those areas of designated responsibility.

Recognizes the purpose of employment is to prioritize the patient as number one, and to put forth the utmost quality as an Echo / Vascular Technologist.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

1. Maintains a positive and professional atmosphere for patients and personnel. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients and personnel who may be under physical or emotional stress, and gather and exchange patient information with nursing personnel and physicians.
2. Transfers and properly positions patients for examinations in order to obtain desired Echo/Vascular results according to physician specifications. Provides immobilization as required and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
3. Selects and operates equipment, selecting proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
4. Is proficient in the use of Philips Sonos 5500 and Excelera reporting system.
5. Assists physicians in performance of examinations by assisting in sterile procedures, and other related duties as required. Assists in performing first aid as necessary.
6. Practices universal precautions and prevents cross contamination. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness, including provision for the contamination-free condition of rooms, equipment and personnel.
7. Secures and returns supplies. Maintains room stock.
8. Responsible for necessary equipment maintenance recommendations and "trouble shooting" when indicated. Keeps all necessary equipment maintenance logs which pertain to preventive maintenance or emergency service.
9. Available to assist with budget as required by Manager of Diagnostic Imaging Services, specifically for the Echo service.
10. May be responsible for specific areas of instruction in the student program and ancillary personnel.
11. Responsible for quality control of Echo examinations.
12. Cooperates with all department personnel in a positive and professional manner. Maintains a positive and loyal attitude towards employer.
13. Performs a variety of related clerical tasks as necessary.
14. Receives verbal and written orders for examinations from a responsible practitioner in keeping with their state license.
15. Maintains professional appearance by adhering to Dress and Grooming Policy and Dress Code of Radiology Services.
16. Takes advantage of opportunities for continuing education as provided by the department or seminars available for the various specialties cross training in specialized areas.
17. Ensures patient safety, privacy and dignity to the greatest extent possible.
18. Has qualifications and experience determined to be adequate by the Diagnostic Imaging Manager and Medical Director to operate equipment and evaluate images obtained, including anatomy and pathology, so that additional images may be obtained if necessary for correct diagnosis.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.

Training and Experience

• Minimum three (3) years’ experience pertinent to the modality or one (1) year previous lead tech experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• The employee must have met at least one of the following criteria:
  • RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) through CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International)
  • RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) through ARDMS (American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographers)
  • Must have attended an accredited Ultrasound program and be Registry eligible for either RCS or RDCS or both. Under these guidelines the employee must obtain either the RCS, RDCS or both within 24 months of hire.
• American Heart Association BLS HCP required.
