Job Description

General Application, Motion Designer (Freelance)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a General Application, Motion Designer (Freelance) based in the United States.

As a freelance Motion Designer, you’ll transform ideas into expressive, purposeful stories and digital experiences through motion. You’ll work across brand, marketing, and product projects, bringing identities, campaigns, interfaces, and experiences to life. The role combines exceptional visual craft with conceptual thinking, storytelling, and technical execution. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of designers, writers, strategists, developers, and producers from early exploration through final delivery. Senior-level contributors will own complex motion projects, while Lead-level designers may also shape creative direction and mentor other creatives. This is an opportunity to experiment with emerging tools and technologies while creating work that is visually distinctive, meaningful, and impactful.

Accountabilities:
  • Concept, design, and execute high-quality motion work across 2D, 3D, interactive, and digital contexts.
  • Translate creative strategies and concepts into storyboards, style frames, motion studies, prototypes, and polished final deliverables.
  • Use motion intentionally to strengthen storytelling, brand expression, usability, clarity, and emotional impact.
  • Bring brand identities, campaigns, interfaces, content, films, and digital experiences to life across different screens, formats, and platforms.
  • Develop motion principles, systems, and reusable patterns that create consistency and scalability across projects.
  • Partner closely with designers, writers, strategists, developers, and producers throughout the creative and production process.
  • Present motion concepts and creative rationale clearly to internal teams and clients, explaining the role and value of motion within the broader experience.
  • Own the quality, consistency, and technical execution of motion deliverables while balancing project timelines, creative objectives, and technical constraints.
  • At Lead level, define motion direction and vision, guide execution across teams, maintain quality across multiple deliverables, and mentor other designers through feedback and example.
  • Explore emerging creative tools and technologies, including AI, while applying strong creative judgment and responsible practices.
  • Contribute to a collaborative creative environment by sharing ideas, experimenting with new approaches, and continuously raising the quality of the work.
Requirements:
  • Bring a strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional motion design craft, visual storytelling, creative range, and a distinctive point of view.
  • Have significant experience taking complex motion projects from early concept and exploration through final execution.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency with motion, animation, and interactive design tools and workflows.
  • Have strong knowledge of typography, composition, pacing, transitions, visual hierarchy, and broader design principles.
  • Experience across multiple motion applications—including brand systems, campaigns, digital content, interfaces, films, or interactive experiences—is highly valued.
  • Be capable of working autonomously, making thoughtful creative decisions, managing priorities, and maintaining a consistently high standard of craft.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain, present, and advocate for motion-led creative ideas.
  • Work effectively within multidisciplinary creative and technical teams and contribute constructively to collaborative processes.
  • For Lead-level consideration, demonstrate experience defining motion direction, overseeing quality across multiple deliverables, and guiding or mentoring other creatives.
  • Show curiosity about emerging technologies, creative workflows, and visual approaches, along with the judgment to determine when they genuinely improve the work.
  • Be comfortable working remotely as a freelance contributor and adapting to different project teams, briefs, timelines, and creative environments.
Benefits:
  • Contract compensation of $60–$105 USD per hour, with final rates determined by location, experience, and skillset.
  • Regional compensation ranges adjusted for cost of living, with three U.S. pay regions.
  • Freelance flexibility through remote contract work.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across brand, marketing, and product projects.
  • Exposure to varied creative challenges spanning digital experiences, campaigns, identities, interfaces, and interactive work.
  • Opportunities to contribute at both Senior and Lead levels depending on experience and project needs.
  • Potential benefits in accordance with applicable law and company policy, including eligibility based on hours worked and assignment duration.
  • Opportunities to experiment with emerging creative technologies, including AI, within a thoughtful and responsible creative environment.
  • Opportunity to join a broader freelance creative network and collaborate on ambitious, high-impact digital work.
  • A culture that values curiosity, diverse perspectives, creative experimentation, thoughtful collaboration, and high-quality craft.
