Job Description: The environmental coordinator is a professional position responsible for the analysis, development and recommendation of various projects and programs to assist the facility in complying with federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations. Works closely with facility personnel to ensure that the facility complies with the company environmental policy.

Responsibilities:
- Maintains a thorough understanding of facility processes and assists the facility in the continuous improvement of processes with environmental aspects. Identifies, develops and implements environmental solutions to facility environmental issues.
- Ensures facility compliance with company environmental policies and federal, state and local environmental regulations. Monitors compliance and assists the facility with the various environmental reporting and record keeping requirements.
- Performs complex environmental work requiring considerable exercise of independent analysis and judgment in environmental services. Exhibits leadership in anticipating and addressing evolving environmental issues. Manages environmental activities of consulting firms.
- Validates and updates the business plan and other environmentally related operational and facility performance related documents or manuals. Reviews, plans and performs other environmental services duties as assigned.
- As requested, may evaluate and develop comments on proposed state and federal laws and regulations. Advise management of the impact of proposed regulations and develop potential compliance strategies for the facility. Prepare financial analyses of environmental impacts on facility operations.
- Develops regulatory strategies and facility procedures and guidance for operational permits. Upon request, assist in obtaining operation permits and representing the company during negotiations with regulatory agencies on permit conditions, variances, or other environmental areas. As requested, prepares and submits testimony in legislative or regulatory hearings.
- Maintains a basic understanding of environmental issues for all media. Maintains a specialized knowledge and expertise in California environmental regulations.
- Provide technical leadership to staff.
- Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental sciences or the physical sciences. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
- A minimum of three years of experience in environmental work or equivalent, with a minimum of two years demonstrated air, water or waste/land use experience.
- Requires an advanced knowledge of environmental policy, laws and regulations, with the ability to analyze and evaluate complex regulatory proposals and submit written comments.
- Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- The demonstrated ability to supervise and work with others effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Strong communication skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate complex information accurately and understandably in written and verbal form.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with government agencies, trade groups and other industries.
- Computer skills including competency with spreadsheets, word processors, presentation tools or a demonstrated ability to learn such skills.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
