Job Description
The Vehicle Electrical Architecture Engineer owns the design, integration, validation, and production release of Nexio’s vehicle electrical architecture, including wire harness system and electrical interfaces. This role translates vehicle, powertrain, controls, and subsystem requirements into robust, manufacturable, serviceable electrical systems. The architect works across mechanical engineering, controls, powertrain, manufacturing, suppliers, and service teams to integrate Nexio systems into commercial vehicle platforms. The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience designing, packaging, troubleshooting, and validating automotive or commercial vehicle electrical systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESVehicle Electrical Architecture and Component Specification- Develop and maintain the vehicle-level electrical architecture for Nexio vehicles and powertrain applications.
- Establish requirements for voltage, current, circuit protection, grounding, shielding, signal integrity, and network connectivity.
- Develop harness schematics, wire lists, connector specifications, splice definitions, bills of materials, and manufacturing documentation.
- Select appropriate wires, terminals, connectors, seals, protection, and routing strategies.
- Design for temperature, vibration, abrasion, moisture, chemicals, electromagnetic interference, packaging, serviceability, and manufacturability.
- Evaluate architecture changes and their impact across vehicle systems.
- Maintain configuration control and revision history for electrical documentation.
- Support prototype builds, vehicle commissioning, testing, and validation.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting using multimeters, oscilloscopes, CAN tools, and other diagnostic equipment.
- Diagnose wiring, connector, grounding, communication, sensor, power distribution, and integration issues.
- Develop and execute electrical verification and validation activities.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for development, production, and field issues.
- Partner with manufacturing engineering and operations on assembly processes, work instructions, inspection requirements, and end-of-line testing.
- Support design reviews, engineering changes, production readiness, and manufacturing issue resolution.
- Develop technical requirements for harnesses, connectors, and electrical components.
- Review supplier drawings, prototypes, specifications, and change requests.
- Resolve supplier technical, quality, manufacturability, and availability issues.
- Identify opportunities for component standardization and reduced electrical complexity.
- Maintain accurate architecture diagrams, schematics, harness documentation, interface definitions, specifications, and engineering records.
- Ensure released documentation reflects the production vehicle configuration.
- Develop technical documentation for manufacturing, service, troubleshooting, and field support.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Professional experience designing automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, industrial vehicle, or similarly complex mobile electrical systems.
- Familiarity with the automotive norms and standards for electrical systems
- Direct experience designing vehicle wire harnesses and electrical interconnections.
- Wiring schematic creation experience with EE professional tool (VeSys/Siemens Capital, Capital Harness, etc.)
- Working knowledge of connectors, terminals, wire specifications, circuit protection, relays, fuses, grounding, shielding, and power distribution.
- Experience integrating controllers, sensors, actuators, and electronic devices into vehicle systems.
- Working knowledge of CAN-based communications and diagnostics.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical systems with diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to interpret schematics, mechanical drawings, CAD layouts, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Experience supporting prototype builds and production transitions.
- Strong problem-solving, root-cause-analysis, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience with Class 4–8 commercial vehicles, vocational vehicles, alternative-fuel vehicles, or powertrain integration.
- Experience designing engine or powertrain harnesses.
- Experience integrating systems with OEM chassis electrical architectures.
- Experience with Capital, Zuken E3, VeSys, AutoCAD Electrical, or comparable tools.
- Experience with SAE J1939 and commercial vehicle CAN networks.
- Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, electrical validation, or similar product-development processes.
- Experience working with wire harness manufacturers or suppliers.
- Familiarity with functional safety, high-voltage systems, alternative-fuel systems, or commercial vehicle regulatory requirements.
