As a Clinical Lead at UNC Health Appalachian, you'll play a critical role in supporting daily clinical operations within the ambulatory setting. This position combines hands-on patient care with workflow coordination, staff support, and operational oversight to help ensure a seamless patient experience.

Working closely with the Clinical Supervisor and Practice Manager, you'll help maintain efficient clinic operations, support team members, identify opportunities for improvement, and contribute to a collaborative, patient-centered environment focused on quality, safety, and service excellence.

What You'll Do as a Clinical Lead

• Provide hands-on patient care while supporting day-to-day clinic operations.
• Coordinate clinical workflow, staffing coverage, and departmental supplies.
• Step into staffing gaps as needed to maintain efficient clinic operations.
• Identify workflow challenges and communicate improvement opportunities to the Clinical Supervisor or Practice Manager.
• Support team members in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
• Assist with maintaining operational efficiency and clinic performance standards.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required at the time of hire.
• Must also meet one of the applicable role-specific education, licensure, registration, or certification requirements below.
• Completion of an accredited program in the applicable clinical discipline is required unless otherwise specified.

Experience

• Two years of clinical lead experience in an ambulatory, hospital-based, or similar clinical setting preferred.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

Required Licensure & Certification Medical Assistant Pathway

• Current certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required at the time of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association required at the time of hire.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) / Registered Nurse (RN) Pathway

• Current and active LPN or RN license required at the time of hire.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited institution required for RN candidates.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association required at the time of hire.

Imaging / Radiologic Technology / Sonography Pathway

• Completion of an accredited program in Medical Imaging, Radiologic Technology, Radiation Therapy, Sonography, or a related imaging discipline required as applicable to the role.
• For Radiation Therapy Only: Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy or a related field required.
• Current and active applicable certification, registration, or licensure required at the time of hire. This may include ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy, Ultrasonography certification, or another approved imaging credential applicable to the position.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association required at the time of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to provide guidance, support, and accountability to clinical staff.
• Strong clinical proficiency within the applicable discipline, including patient care, procedures, documentation, equipment use, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with patients and healthcare professionals.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules, priorities, and clinical workflows.
• Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to identify operational challenges and implement solutions.

Role-Specific Clinical Knowledge

• Radiation Therapy/Radiologic Technology: Knowledge of treatment workflows, patient positioning, equipment operation, quality assurance, safety standards, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
• Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse: Knowledge of nursing workflows, patient assessment, medication administration, care coordination, patient education, documentation, provider support, and scope-of-practice requirements.

Physical & Work Environment Physical Demands

• Move efficiently throughout the clinic environment.
• Perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and precise hand movements.
• Lift and carry supplies as needed.
• Stand for extended periods during patient care and clinic activities.
• Utilize computers and electronic systems regularly for documentation and administrative responsibilities.
• Maintain flexibility for occasional evening or weekend coverage.
• Collaborate closely with healthcare professionals and staff to support efficient clinic operations.

Working Conditions

• Primarily ambulatory clinic-based work environment.
• Regular exposure to patients, healthcare professionals, and medical equipment.
• Experience working with a variety of patient conditions and clinical procedures.
• Frequent interaction with patients requiring professionalism, compassion, and excellent customer service.
• Responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive patient information.
• Occasional evening or weekend schedules may be required.
• Regular collaboration with clinical and administrative teams.
• Fast-paced healthcare environment requiring adaptability and flexibility.

For Radiation Therapy/Radiologic Technology Clinical Leads:

• Exposure to ionizing radiation is inherent to the role; adherence to established safety protocols is required at all times.
