Job Title: Federal Work-Study Student – Overnight Residence Hall Desk Assistant
Number of Positions: Multiple
Department: Housing & Residence Life
Job Location: Kentucky State University Residence Halls
Supervisor/Timekeeper: Residence Life Professional Staff / Designee
Supervisor Contact: To be provided by Housing & Residence Life
Hours per Week (Max 20): Up to 20 hours per week; overnight shifts based on departmental scheduling needs
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide overnight desk coverage and customer service for residents in an assigned residence hall.
• Assist residents with routine questions regarding residence hall operations, services, and procedures.
• Monitor the residence hall front desk, telephone, approved communication systems, and other assigned desk functions.
• Maintain accurate desk logs, lockout records, visitor/guest documentation, and other required records.
• Receive and document routine resident concerns and promptly refer matters requiring professional staff intervention.
• Support after-hours communication by contacting the appropriate Residence Life on-call staff member when necessary.
• Assist with approved guest and visitor procedures in accordance with University and Residence Life policies.
• Report safety concerns, facility concerns, suspicious activity, disturbances, and policy violations to the appropriate University personnel.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and residence hall matters.
• Maintain a professional, welcoming, and service-oriented presence at the residence hall desk.
• Complete assigned administrative tasks, filing, data entry, and other clerical duties supporting Residence Life operations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
• This is a student employment position. The student employee does not replace professional Residence Life, Facilities, University Police, or other University personnel. Matters outside the scope of the position must be referred to the appropriate University staff member.
Qualification and Requirements:
• Must be currently enrolled as a student at Kentucky State University and eligible for Federal Work-Study.
• Must be able to work assigned overnight hours and maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain professional, alert, and dependable during overnight shifts.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgment with student information.
• Basic computer, email, and data-entry skills.
• Ability to follow University policies, departmental procedures, and supervisory direction.
• Ability to work independently while recognizing when a matter must be escalated to professional staff.
• Must not represent the position as University Police, security, emergency medical personnel, or professional Residence Life staff.
• Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
