Job Summary

The Conservation Agent / Stormwater Compliance Officer works under the administrative direction of the Building Commissioner and serves as professional staff liaison to the Fitchburg Conservation Commission. In the role of Conservation Agent, the position reviews and advises the Commission on filings, permitting, enforcement, and other matters under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, Rivers Protection Act, Fitchburg Wetlands Protection Ordinance, and other applicable environmental requirements; providing objective and impartial professional and technical recommendations consistent with the Commission’s independent regulatory authority. The Stormwater Compliance Officer role is the designee of the Commissioner of Public Works relative to enforcement of the City of Fitchburg’s Stormwater Ordinance and associated Rules and Regulations. In this role, the position works closely with DPW Engineering staff to assess compliance with, and (when necessary) take enforcement action related to the City of Fitchburg’s Stormwater Ordinance and associated Rules and Regulations. The position provides technical assistance and coordination to municipal boards and commissions, City departments, developers, property owners, and the public on conservation, environmental permitting, stormwater management, and related regulatory matters.
