Job Summary:
The Residential HVAC Service & Maintenance Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in residential homes. This role involves troubleshooting system issues, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring optimal system performance while delivering top-tier customer service. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, experience with residential HVAC service and repairs, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Service & Repair:

  • Diagnose and repair HVAC system issues, including electrical and mechanical failures, refrigerant leaks, thermostat malfunctions, and airflow problems.
  • Replace or repair components such as compressors, motors, capacitors, contactors, circuit boards, and other HVAC parts.
  • Test system performance, airflow, and refrigerant levels to ensure proper operation.
  • Provide emergency HVAC repair services as needed, including after-hours calls.

Preventative Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance on HVAC systems, including filter changes, coil cleaning, lubrication, and thermostat calibration.
  • Inspect and test system components to identify potential issues before major breakdowns occur.
  • Optimize system efficiency and ensure HVAC units operate within manufacturer specifications.
  • Educate homeowners on proper system care and energy-saving tips.

Customer Service & Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with homeowners, explaining system issues, repair options, and maintenance recommendations.
  • Provide accurate service estimates and answer customer questions professionally.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering quality work and maintaining a clean work environment.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Adhere to local HVAC codes, company policies, and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Follow EPA guidelines for refrigerant handling and disposal.
  • Use proper safety gear and procedures when working with electrical components and HVAC systems.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Complete detailed service reports, including diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance records.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of parts and tools needed for service calls.
  • Provide feedback on recurring system issues and recommend potential improvements.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; HVAC certification or technical training preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in residential HVAC service, repair, and maintenance.
  • EPA Certification.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in using HVAC tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and withstand extreme temperatures.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Work Environment:

This role requires traveling to residential homes, working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, and handling physically demanding tasks such as lifting HVAC units, working in attics or crawl spaces, and climbing ladders
