Job Description
We are seeking dependable, self-motivated, and hardworking individuals to join our team as Transfer Station / Yard Jockey Laborers. This hands-on role combines trailer movement, material handling, equipment operation, and general yard support at our recycling and transfer station facility. You will play a critical role in keeping operations running smoothly and safely in a fast-paced outdoor industrial environment.
Schedule & Compensation
• Monday to Friday (dayshift), with occasional holidays as needed
• Scheduled Saturday rotation (expected 1–2 times per month)
• Expected 40 hours per week, with opportunity for overtime
• Full-time positions available
Key Responsibilities
Trailer Movement & Yard Operations
• Safely back tractor trailers into the pit for loading and pull trailers around the building and onto the scale
• Stage trailers properly and assist Transfer Station Loaders
• Load and unload recyclable materials from trucks and trailers
• Transport materials throughout the yard and facility work areas
• Direct truck traffic and guide drivers using verbal communication and hand signals
Material Handling & Processing
• Sort recyclable metals and materials (including separating higher-value items such as copper, brass, and aluminum)
• Securely tarp loaded trailers once filled
Equipment & Facility Support
• Operate heavy equipment as needed (forklifts, front loaders, excavator, skid steers, etc.)
• Use tools including power tools, pressure washers, and material processing equipment
• Perform sorting and processing of recyclable materials
• Conduct general housekeeping and facility upkeep (sweeping, shoveling, raking, painting, etc.)
• Maintain clean and safe work areas free of loose waste and debris
• Report maintenance issues or equipment concerns to supervisors
Safety & Compliance
• Follow all safety policies and procedures while working around heavy equipment and moving vehicles
• Comply with federal, state, and local regulations
• Maintain awareness of surroundings at all times
Requirements & Qualifications
• Valid driver’s license required (CDL is NOT required)
• Prior experience operating heavy equipment (excavator, skid steers, forklifts, etc.) is a strong plus
• Ability to perform physical labor in an outdoor industrial environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with customers and drivers
• Good hand-eye coordination, strength, and endurance
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to work additional hours as needed
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Experience in recycling, construction, heavy labor, or industrial settings is a plus
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
This is an outdoor industrial yard position performed in all weather conditions (heat, sun, rain, snow, wind).
• Lifting: Up to 50–75 lbs regularly
• Physical demands: Standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, push/pull, sit/stand
• Work around moving equipment, trucks, dust, dirt, odors, and extreme temperatures
• Must provide your own safety-approved work boots
• Strong emphasis on safety, dependability, and housekeeping
