At RCC, our internship program is designed to give students meaningful, hands-on experience while building the foundation for a long-term career in construction.

As an Estimating Intern, you'll work alongside RCC Estimators, Preconstruction professionals, and project teams to experience how construction projects move from initial concepts and drawings to budgets, estimates, and competitive bids. You won't just observe, you'll have opportunities to contribute to active pursuits, learn from experienced construction professionals, and gain exposure to the day-to-day responsibilities of an Estimator.

Our goal is to develop future construction professionals while building strong roots within the communities and markets we serve. We're especially interested in students attending local universities who have connections to Central Illinois and an interest in building their careers in the region. Through real project experience, mentorship, and opportunities to continue working with RCC throughout the academic year, we aim to develop lasting relationships that create a pathway from internship to a potential full-time career with our team.

Internship experiences may include:

1. Assisting with quantity takeoffs, material pricing, and cost estimates for construction projects
2. Reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and project documents to understand project scope
3. Supporting the preparation of conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and competitive bids
4. Learning how construction materials, labor, equipment, and methods impact project costs
5. Assisting with subcontractor and supplier outreach, bid solicitation, and proposal comparisons
6. Participating in estimating meetings, project briefings, jobsite visits, and bid reviews
7. Working alongside Estimators, Preconstruction professionals, and Operations teams to understand project planning and execution
8. Using estimating software, construction technology, and historical cost data to support project estimates
9. Helping identify potential project risks, scope gaps, and opportunities for cost savings
10. Gaining exposure to RCC's clients, trade partners, projects, and the local construction market

1. Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field
2. Internship opportunities available to students from freshman through senior year
3. Interest in pursuing a career in the construction industry, particularly estimating or preconstruction
4. Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
5. Attention to detail and willingness to learn how construction projects are estimated and priced
6. Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a project team
7. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel
