Senior New Areas Researcher

You will lead complex research agendas that directly inform multi-million-dollar funding decisions aimed at improving and saving lives worldwide.
The work blends empirical evidence review, advanced cost-effectiveness modeling, and structured expert engagement to answer high-stakes, ambiguous questions.
You will contribute to shaping new programmatic areas, strengthening evidence bases, and stress-testing key assumptions behind major funding choices.
The environment is highly analytical, mission-driven, and collaborative, with strong emphasis on intellectual honesty and independent thinking.
You will also help guide and mentor other researchers while representing research insights to external experts and stakeholders.
This is a high-impact role with significant autonomy and visibility across strategic funding decisions.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and develop high-impact research agendas focused on emerging and underexplored global health intervention areas, identifying the most critical questions that influence funding decisions.
  • Conduct deep evidence synthesis, cost-effectiveness modeling, and uncertainty analysis to support grantmaking and refine impact estimates.
  • Design, oversee, and interpret learning grants and impact evaluations, ensuring findings are integrated into decision-making frameworks.
  • Build and expand evidence bases for new programmatic areas through literature reviews, expert consultations, commissioned studies, and primary data efforts when needed.
  • Support grantmakers by stress-testing assumptions, improving analytical models, and highlighting key uncertainties in funding recommendations.
  • Collaborate across research teams and contribute to end-to-end grant investigations, from initial question framing to final recommendations.
  • Represent research findings externally and contribute to knowledge-sharing with subject matter experts and partners.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as epidemiology, economics, public health, biostatistics, or a closely related field.
  • Substantial professional experience in global health, development economics, monitoring and evaluation, epidemiology, or cost-effectiveness analysis of health programs.
  • Strong ability to quickly learn new domains, synthesize complex information, and operate effectively across multiple research areas.
  • Advanced analytical skills, including experience with empirical methods, modeling, and evidence-based decision-making in real-world settings.
  • Intellectual curiosity, independence of thought, and comfort engaging critically with evidence and assumptions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly express uncertainty and reasoning.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in a high-trust, high-performance research environment.
  • High attention to detail combined with the ability to prioritize the most decision-relevant questions.

  • Competitive salary: up to $241,000 depending on location tier (NYC/San Francisco Bay Area) or $219,000 for other U.S. locations, with equivalent international adjustments.
