Minimum Qualifications: AA Degree Preferred OR Recent attainment and completion of General Education Diploma and/or Educational Skills Proficiency Tests.

Salary Range: $20.57 – $26.84 per hour

Position Overview:

As a Skills Instructor, you will teach basic and independent living skills activities and provide direct instruction for individuals with various learning aptitudes. The OIC 101 Instructor will conduct assessments and occupational evaluations across a variety of disciplines including, but not limited to energy conservation, resource research, nutrition, socio-emotional/coping skills, budgeting, digital literacy, and basic law/civics education. They will provide students with entry-level knowledge to support students with becoming self-sufficient and the knowledge to be a community, family, and self-advocate. They will provide program completers with certificates of completion and refer them to the Education and Career Services Department.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain an active record of student performance and growth. Research, develop, and implement culturally relevant instruction and materials to assist students with academic and professional skills development.
  • Prepare students for further education by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and persevere with challenging tasks.
  • Expose students to occupational training and careers, particularly for STEM-related activities and help work readiness training for students.
  • Must work in partnership with programmatic staff to ensure student's academic progress is guided by each student's Individual Success Plan (ISP).
  • Work with partners to coordinate other services
  • Observe and evaluate students' work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement to the Project/Program Director.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs, abilities, and interests.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, and experience leading a group of students.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of career services and labor market trends.
  • Demonstrate ability to use sound judgment, work effectively and calmly under pressure, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. Frequently required to talk and hear. Occasionally drive a motor vehicle in different seasonal weather, road conditions, and at various times of the day. Will occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Occasionally required to reach, push/pull, and stoop.

Additional Conditions of Employment:

Successfully pass a Criminal History & Background Check. Successfully pass a pre-employment drug test. Valid WA State Driver’s License and proof of insurance if requested.
