Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification within one year of hire, must complete a Micrographically Oriented Histographic Surgery Histotechnician (MOHS) training program within 1 year of official hire date.

Physical Requirements
The physical requirements for this position include regularly sitting, standing, walking, with some pushing, pulling, and/or lifting objects weighing up to 10lbs and occasional pushing, pulling, and/or lifting objects up to 50lbs.
Shift
Monday – Friday, Day Shift; primarily 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (40 hrs/wk); other hours/schedule as needed
Job Summary
This position is located off-campus, at UKHC Turfland Clinic in Turfland Center (Lexington, KY).

The MOHS (Micrographically Oriented Histographic Surgery) Histotechnician is a vital role, specializing in the processing and preparation of tissue samples for MOHS surgery, a specialized technique used in the treatment of skin cancer. Collaborating closely with dermatologists and pathologists, the MOHS Histotechnician ensures the accurate diagnosis and complete removal of cancerous cells.

This involves receiving, labeling, and documenting tissue specimens, preparing them for examination, freezing and cutting thin sections for immediate analysis, staining tissue sections, and assisting in mapping and orientation. With specialized training and expertise in the unique requirements of MOHS surgery, the MOHS Histotechnician plays a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to successful patient treatment outcomes.

This position’s pay range starts at Grade 9 ($21.00 – 34.59 / hr) but will be increased to a Grade 10 ($23.25 – 39.10 / hr) upon MOHS Histotechnician training from an accredited organization.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Tissue embedding, staining, microtomy and cutting frozen sections, routine histology experience.
