Production Planner / Master Scheduler in Tomball, Texas at Dynamic Systems, Inc.

Position summary

Dynamic Systems (DSI), LLC, a Quanta Services company, is a mechanical contractor delivering HVAC and plumbing systems for mission-critical facilities. Our Division 440 Off-Site Manufacturing (OSM) group builds modular mechanical assemblies — skids, racks, headers, and prefabricated piping and equipment modules — in a controlled fabrication facility for installation on data-center and industrial projects.

The Production Planner / Master Scheduler owns the plan for what the OSM floor builds, in what sequence, and when it leaves the building. This is a production planning and control role, not a floor-supervision role. The Floor Manager owns how the work gets built and who builds it; this position owns what enters the line, when it enters, and where finished product goes. The two roles run the floor together and report to the same division leader.

The right candidate has lived inside a make-to-order or engineer-to-order manufacturing operation — where every unit is different, drawings arrive late, and delivery dates move — and has kept a multi-customer production schedule honest under those conditions.

Key responsibilities

Build, own, and maintain the master production schedule across all active OSM jobs, converting project delivery dates and field install sequences into a station-by-station, week-by-week build plan.

Sequence and release work to the line based on delivery commitments, engineering/drawing status, material and equipment availability, and station capacity; re-level the plan when any of those move.

Run capacity planning: forecast labor-hours, station load, and floor space by week and by job; flag overloads and gaps 4–8 weeks out so staffing and overtime decisions are made ahead of time, not after the fact.

Own the material readiness gate: coordinate with procurement, detailing/BIM, and vendors so that drawings, BOMs, and kitted material are staged before a module is released — the line should never wait on a kit.

Track work-in-process and finished-goods staging; plan yard/floor space for completed modules and coordinate outbound logistics, crating, and truck scheduling with the field and project management.

Lead the daily production huddle and the weekly production planning meeting: the Floor Manager reports actuals, the planner reconciles plan vs. actual and publishes the re-leveled schedule.

Maintain the production schedule in Smartsheet (fabrication, delivery, and commissioning sequences) and keep it aligned with project master schedules and the monthly Schedule of Jobs (SOJ) review.

Publish schedule status, risk, and look-ahead reporting to division leadership and project managers; be the single source of truth for 'when will module X ship.'

Define and track production KPIs: schedule adherence, on-time delivery, throughput per station, WIP aging, kit-readiness rate, and change-order impact on the plan.

Partner with project management and preconstruction on new-job intake: assess floor capacity before commitments are made and set realistic fabrication windows.

Drive continuous improvement in planning processes, standard lead times, and ERP/schedule data quality.

Required qualifications

5+ years in production planning, master scheduling, or production control within a make-to-order / engineer-to-order manufacturing environment (e.g., structural steel, precast, modular building, HVAC equipment, switchgear, process skids, shipbuilding, custom fabrication).

Demonstrated ownership of a multi-customer or multi-project master production schedule, including sequencing, capacity planning, and re-leveling under changing delivery dates.

Hands-on ERP/MRP scheduling experience (any major system); comfort building and maintaining schedules and reports in Excel and a Gantt/scheduling tool.

Ability to read mechanical/piping fabrication drawings and BOMs well enough to understand build sequence and material dependencies.

Strong facilitation skills — able to run a production meeting, hold the line on the plan, and negotiate priorities with project managers without owning the crews.

Clear written communication; able to publish a schedule status that a project executive can read in two minutes.

Preferred qualifications

Experience with Smartsheet (dependency-enabled Gantt), Autodesk Construction Cloud, or Viewpoint Vista.

Background in mechanical/HVAC/plumbing fabrication or modular construction for datacenter, healthcare, or industrial projects.

APICS CPIM/CSCP, Lean/Six Sigma, or equivalent production-planning credential.

Exposure to construction project scheduling (P6 or MS Project) and to coordinating with field installation crews.

Success in the first 90 days

Day 30 — Has mapped every active OSM job to a station-level build plan and published the first integrated master production schedule.

Day 60 — Weekly planning meeting is running on cadence; kit-readiness gate is in place; schedule status is feeding project management and the SOJ review.

Day 90 — A 6–8-week capacity look-ahead is published and trusted; the division leader and Floor Manager can point to at least one schedule conflict caught and resolved before it hit the floor.

Work environment

Primarily on-site in an active fabrication facility with daily floor presence; standard PPE required. Office-based planning work with regular interaction with project managers, detailers, procurement, and field superintendents. Occasional travel to project sites and vendor facilities.
