Job Description

Staff Software Engineer - Agentic First

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer - Agentic First in United States.

This role sits at the frontier of software engineering, where AI-driven, agentic workflows are becoming the primary way complex systems are designed and delivered. You will lead the architecture and implementation of enterprise-grade capabilities within a globally used software supply chain security platform. The position blends deep distributed systems expertise with next-generation multi-agent orchestration, shaping how engineering teams build with and alongside autonomous agents. You will define technical direction for major product areas while influencing engineering practices across teams and mentoring senior engineers. The environment is highly innovative and fast-evolving, centered on AI-enabled development, verification-first engineering, and large-scale system design. This is a high-impact role where your work directly influences how millions of developers build, secure, and deliver software worldwide.

Accountabilities:
  • Architect and lead the design of agentic-first systems, including service architecture, data models, and multi-agent orchestration workflows spanning planning, coding, testing, and review.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of major product initiatives, from ambiguous problem definition through technical design, execution across teams, rollout, and long-term operability.
  • Define and implement verification-first engineering practices, including evaluation frameworks, test harnesses, guardrails, and review processes that enable safe, autonomous code generation.
  • Establish internal standards and playbooks for agent-driven engineering, mentoring senior engineers and shaping organizational best practices for AI-assisted development.
  • Ensure system performance, reliability, scalability, and security across mission-critical services, with focus on software supply chain threats and integrity.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Security, UX, and Support teams to translate complex needs into scalable technical solutions and high-quality system designs.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated leadership across large-scale, multi-team technical initiatives.
  • Deep expertise in Java and distributed systems, including performance optimization, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and production-grade system reliability.
  • Strong hands-on experience with multi-agent orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, custom orchestrators, Cursor/Codex-style agents) and production deployment of agentic workflows.
  • Proven ability to design evaluation systems, observability tools, and verification frameworks for AI-assisted or automated code generation systems.
  • Strong product engineering mindset with the ability to independently make technical and product trade-offs.
  • Deep understanding of DevSecOps and software supply chain security, including SBOM (CycloneDX, SPDX), SLSA, Sigstore/cosign, and vulnerability ecosystems (OSV, NVD).
  • Experience influencing engineering culture, defining practices, and raising technical standards across organizations.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills with a track record of guiding senior engineers.
  • High intellectual curiosity and a passion for exploring and advancing agent-driven software development practices.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation aligned with senior and staff-level engineering roles
  • Remote-friendly and flexible working arrangements
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI agentic systems at global scale
  • Exposure to industry-leading software supply chain security technology
  • Strong focus on professional growth, technical leadership, and innovation
  • Inclusive work environment with diversity and employee resource initiatives
  • Generous policies including parental leave and paid volunteer time off
  • Participation in shaping next-generation engineering practices in AI-native development
