Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the accounting department by performing variety of accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling GL accounts, and assisting with month-end, year-end close and reporting under the direct supervision of the Finance Managers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Prepare and post journal entries under supervision
  2. Perform account reconciliations (bank, general ledger, and subsidiary accounts)
  3. Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  4. Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation
  5. Assist with fixed asset tracking, leases and depreciation schedules
  6. Help prepare basic financial reports and schedules under supervision
  7. Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
  8. Respond to internal accounting inquiries and provide documentation as requested
  9. Assists with fuel tracking and charging credits
  10. Assists with Excise Tax Tacking Documentation
  11. Support the Finance manager with audits by preparing requested schedules and reports
  12. Support the Finance Managers with variety of accounting tasks as requested
  13. Provide back-up coverage for the finance staff as needed.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle)
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and GASB accounting Standards
  • Ability to quickly grasp accounting concepts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Analytical, problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Professionalism and discretion with confidential information
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 1-5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience; government, transit, corporate or public accounting
  • Understanding of Accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Duties performed primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer with the remainder of time walking within Island Transit’s office buildings.
  • Requires stooping, reaching, bending, and lifting of office supplies and equipment. Subject to noise from office machines.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Duties may involve some travel to other locations to conduct work. May be required to work outside normal schedule on occasion.
Employment is contingent upon a post job offer criminal background check and a five-year motor vehicle history report, the results of which are acceptable as determined by the employer.
Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license.
Position may be subject to physical or other testing when reasonably necessary to determine job related abilities or reasonable expectation of successfully performing the job.
This position is non-exempt under the Federal Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is eligible for overtime pay.
