Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the accounting department by performing variety of accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling GL accounts, and assisting with month-end, year-end close and reporting under the direct supervision of the Finance Managers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and post journal entries under supervision
- Perform account reconciliations (bank, general ledger, and subsidiary accounts)
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation
- Assist with fixed asset tracking, leases and depreciation schedules
- Help prepare basic financial reports and schedules under supervision
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
- Respond to internal accounting inquiries and provide documentation as requested
- Assists with fuel tracking and charging credits
- Assists with Excise Tax Tacking Documentation
- Support the Finance manager with audits by preparing requested schedules and reports
- Support the Finance Managers with variety of accounting tasks as requested
- Provide back-up coverage for the finance staff as needed.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle)
- Working knowledge of GAAP and GASB accounting Standards
- Ability to quickly grasp accounting concepts
- Proficiency in Microsoft (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- Analytical, problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Professionalism and discretion with confidential information
- Willingness to learn and take direction
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 1-5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience; government, transit, corporate or public accounting
- Understanding of Accounting principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Duties performed primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer with the remainder of time walking within Island Transit’s office buildings.
- Requires stooping, reaching, bending, and lifting of office supplies and equipment. Subject to noise from office machines.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Duties may involve some travel to other locations to conduct work. May be required to work outside normal schedule on occasion.
