Job Description
Position Summary
The Superintendent at T&T Construction Management Group is a pivotal on-site leadership role responsible for the daily planning, coordination, and execution of tilt-up concrete construction projects. This position demands a strong grasp of construction techniques, exceptional leadership qualities, and the ability to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to T&T's rigorous quality standards. Superintendents are the driving force on the job site, directly overseeing trades, managing resources, and maintaining a productive and safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- On-Site Supervision: Direct and supervise all on-site construction activities, including concrete pours, panel erection, and associated tilt-up processes.
- Safety Management: Implement, monitor, and enforce all company safety policies and OSHA regulations. Conduct regular safety meetings and job hazard analyses to ensure a safe working environment.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all work performed adheres to project specifications, blueprints, and T&T's high-quality standards. Conduct regular inspections and quality checks.
- Schedule Management: Work closely with the Project Manager to develop and adhere to the project schedule. Coordinate and sequence daily work activities to maintain efficiency and meet deadlines.
- Resource Coordination: Manage on-site resources, including labor, equipment, and materials, ensuring optimal utilization and timely delivery.
- Subcontractor Management: Coordinate and supervise subcontractor activities, ensuring their work aligns with the project schedule, quality requirements, and safety protocols.
- Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve field issues, collaborating with the Project Manager, engineers, and other stakeholders to find effective solutions.
- Communication & Reporting: Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Project Manager, clients, and subcontractors. Prepare daily reports, progress updates, and document all on-site activities.
- Site Logistics: Plan and manage site logistics, including material staging, access, and security.
- Cost Control: Monitor field-level costs, manage labor efficiency, and minimize waste to contribute to overall project budget adherence.
- Toolbox Talks & Training: Conduct regular toolbox talks and provide on-site training to ensure the team is aware of safety procedures and project-specific requirements.
Superintendent I
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in construction, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role on concrete construction projects. Some direct exposure to tilt-up construction is highly beneficial.
- Education: High school diploma or GED prefer. Associate's degree in Construction Management or a related trade certificate is a plus. OSHA 30-hour certification required.
Skills:
- Basic understanding of construction means and methods, particularly concrete work.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to direct and motivate a small crew.
- Basic knowledge of construction safety practices.
- Problem-solving aptitude for routine site issues.
- Proficiency with basic construction tools and equipment.
- Ability to use technology for daily reports and communication (e.g., tablet, smartphone).
Responsibilities: Oversees daily activities for smaller, less complex tilt-up projects or specific phases of larger projects under the direct guidance of a Project Manager or Senior Superintendent. Focuses on learning company field processes, safety protocols, and developing leadership skills.
Physical Requirements:
Mobility:
· Frequent walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, and occasionally bending, kneeling, or crouching.
· Ability to navigate construction sites, which may involve uneven surfaces, ladders, and confined spaces.
Lifting:
· The ability to lift up to 35 pounds, occasionally, for tasks like carrying equipment or materials.
Sensory Abilities:
· Clear vision for reading blueprints, inspecting work, and operating equipment.
· Good hearing for communication with team members and awareness of site noises.
Environmental Exposure:
· Tolerance for working in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
· Ability to work in noisy environments with construction equipment.
Work Environment:
· Will be a combination of office and construction job site work environments.
· Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, vests, boots, and earplugs.
