Description:

Test Technician - Environmental Test Chambers

The Test Setup Technician is responsible for preparing environmental test chambers for testing. This includes connecting utilities, preparing electrical and mechanical systems, assisting with refrigeration preparation, and ensuring chambers are properly set up and ready for testing.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Utility Connection – prepare and connect utilities required for chambers and accessories, including: electrical power, water, compressed air, gaseous nitrogen (GN2), liquid nitrogen

2. Electric

a. Run and connect main electrical power to environmental test chambers.

b. Connect power to chamber accessories and equipment which includes: disconnects for pumps, temporary test equipment, air-cooled condensers, and motors

3. Water Systems - work with water supply systems typically operating below 60 PSIG.

a. Run flexible water lines to environmental test chambers.

b. Connect water lines to water-cooled condensers and other accessories.

4. Compressed Air - Work with shop air systems typically operating below 120 PSIG.

a. Run compressed air lines to environmental test chambers for dry-air systems and pneumatic-controlled systems and components.

5. Refrigeration

a. Pre-charge refrigeration systems in preparation for testing.

b. Safely recover refrigerant and charge refrigeration systems.

c. Tag and prepare completed systems for the final “take off test” process to be moved to Paint or Shipping.

e. Follow all applicable safety and environmental requirements when handling refrigerants.

6. Documentation & Job Management

a. Complete the setup documentation, checklists, and test records completely and accurately.

f. Use Excel to enter, organize, and manage job information.

g. Create basic Excel charts when required.

Salary: $20 to $23 Hourly

Requirements:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Previous manufacturing/industry experience that includes a basic understanding of electrical systems and components.
  • 2+ years of manufacturing or environmental test chamber experience.
  • Basic understanding of electrical concepts and safety.
  • Experience reading and following drawings, procedures, and checklists.
  • Experience using a torch, soldering and brazing experience.
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools including: wrenches and sockets, screwdrivers, pliers, drills and impact drivers, basic electrical testing equipment, digital multimeter, measuring tools, and other shop tools and equipment as required.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 2+ years of formal training in electrical or refrigeration systems.
  • EPA Universal certification or willingness to obtain EPA certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Previous experience working with the following systems: electrical, compressed air, refrigeration, HVAC, water, and nitrogen.
  • Cascade refrigeration experience a plus.
  • Experience with electrical test equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, bend, and work on equipment for extended periods.
  • Lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of hand tools and PPE as required.
