We’re looking for experienced Project Superintendents who know how to lead complex retail construction projects without missing a beat. From major remodels and renovations to tenant improvements, you’ll take ownership of the onsite operation and turn the project plan into a successful reality—often while the store remains open and business continues.

As the primary field leader, you’ll coordinate subcontractors, vendors, store personnel, clients, and project teams while managing the unique demands of active retail environments, tight schedules, detailed phasing, complex logistics, and minimizing disruption to store operations.

This is a key leadership role for a Superintendent who can anticipate challenges, drive solutions, hold teams accountable, and keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Highly Preferred: Previous experience serving as a Superintendent on Walmart, Sam's Club, or other national big-box retail remodel projects.

Summary:
Responsible for onsite field leadership and successful delivery of large, complex construction projects nationwide. This role provides direction to all onsite personnel, drives schedule performance, ensures safety and quality compliance, and maintains strong client relationships. Serves as the primary onsite field authority and is accountable for project execution from preconstruction through final turnover.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Preconstruction & Project Planning

• Partner with internal teams during planning and buyout phases to ensure constructability and schedule feasibility.
• Provide preconstruction input on means, methods, and schedule duration.
• Develop site logistics plans, staffing plans, and phasing plans for high-volume retail environments.
• Identify long-lead items and coordinate procurement with the project management team.

• Lead onsite field operations for large-scale retail projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring 100% compliance.
• Partner with Project Manager in developing, maintaining, and driving the master project schedule and detailed look-ahead schedules.
• Manage communications with project stakeholders, ensuring clear, timely, and professional verbal and written correspondence.
• Plan and implement sequencing, logistics, and phasing strategies while ensuring project compliance.
• Oversee, evaluate and coordinate all subcontractors, vendors, and field staff.
• Navigate organizational structure and engage appropriately with all departments while understanding and maintaining established Departmental Roles and Responsibilities.
• Manage on-site resources and labor to ensure alignment with project milestones and budget goals.
• Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve project challenges.

• Serve as the primary onsite point of contact for customers, onsite store personnel, building management, subcontractors, etc.
• Lead client meetings and subcontractor coordination meetings.
• Maintain a high level of customer service, represent the company in a professional manner and abide by Company policies and procedures and our Standards of Excellence.
• Drive issue resolution to maintain schedule and client satisfaction

• Maintain a safe, secure and healthy work environment by adhering to company and client-specific safety policies, protocols along with OSHA compliance.
• Conduct and document regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and inspections.
• Ensure all work meets or exceeds plans, specifications, compliance requirements and brand standards.
• Lead punch list completion and turnover to achieve zero-defect project delivery

• Monitor personnel needs, production rates, and installation sequencing.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager on budget, change management, and cost impacts.
• Act as early point of contact for change order identification, evaluating proposed scope changes and cost impacts from subcontractors to ensure validity before escalation to Project Management.
• Implement recovery plans when schedule deviations occur.
• Own and develop accurate forecasting of field progress.

• Maintain daily reports, photo documentation, and field logs.
• Manage inspections, permits, and jurisdictional requirements.
• Understand and apply contract language as it relates to subcontracts, customer master service agreements, and project specification to ensure compliant field execution.
• Utilize software for documentation and tracking.
• Train and develop other field employees in construction management techniques.

• Partner with SFOM to determine ongoing training and mentoring of field employees on job sites.
• Collaborate in designing and developing training materials and training plans to support operational excellence and workforce development.
• Establish clear expectations and hold teams accountable for performance on the job.
• Promote a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
• Lead the standardization of best practices across projects to drive consistency and operational excellence.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; construction-related degree preferred
• Minimum of 10 years commercial construction experience with a General Contractor
• Minimum of 10 years Superintendent experience on large commercial or retail projects
• Demonstrated ability to consistently and successfully complete Remodel/Tenant Improvement/Ground-Up Projects (greater than $1MM)
• Superior knowledge in reading and interpreting blueprints with proven capability of analyzing and constructing details as indicated on drawings
• Superior knowledge of building codes and construction safety regulations
• Superior knowledge of typical construction sub-trade work
• Superior knowledge in all areas listed below:

• Proper Use of Construction Tools: hand tools, power tools, jobsite equipment, etc.
• Commercial Construction Best Practices
• Operating Equipment (Certified) or Vehicles: fork truck, scissor lift, telescopic handlers, trucks, trailers, vans, etc.

• Demonstrated innovator who leads and assists in new approaches and trains others in the field
• Demonstrated ability in helping to establish and support new clients and deliver outstanding work
• Superior leadership, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, multi-tasking, training and management skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage and/or coordinate with people at all levels – PMs, engineers, customers, store personnel, building owners, city officials, subcontractors, etc.
• Superior knowledge of computer technology (Android/Apple), online applications for use in video conferencing and sending emails (Outlook). Ability to learn and utilize customer specific construction software per job requirements
• Demonstrated ability to work with local permit offices to execute inspection schedules based on the dynamic construction schedule
• Demonstrated record of successful on-time project completion with superior quality
• Demonstrate a record of dependability and be self-sufficient and self-directed
• Consistently bring a positive, proactive approach when working with others and ensure a safe work environment
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Capable of accurate daily reporting and logging of site activities
• Ability to travel up to 100% extensively nationwide
• Knowledge of and compliance with DOT regulations for commercial vehicle operation and hours of service when applicable
• Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and personal auto insurance; Real ID or Passport required for airline travel
• OSHA 30 Certification required, or must obtain upon hire ​​​​​​​

Physical Requirements:

• Muscle Strength - the ability to lift weight up to 50 pounds consistently unassisted with arms and legs without difficulty or strain, the ability to lift that weight at full range of motion from floor to overhead and at times may be required to lift heavier weight
• Control Precision - the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions and react to changing job situations
