This role sits at the core of a privacy-first engineering organization focused on building and maintaining systems that protect users from tracking, profiling, and emerging online threats. You will design and enhance privacy technologies that power large-scale consumer products, working on complex systems such as tracker detection, privacy protection frameworks, and secure data handling pipelines. The position involves deep technical ownership, where you will independently lead projects from design through deployment while ensuring alignment with strict privacy principles. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed privacy-by-design into product development and innovation efforts. This is a high-impact engineering role combining backend systems expertise with applied privacy engineering. It offers the opportunity to work in a fully remote, globally distributed environment where autonomy, trust, and end-to-end ownership are central.
- Design, build, and maintain privacy-focused systems that protect users from tracking, data misuse, and emerging online threats.
- Develop and enhance backend services and privacy infrastructure using languages such as Go, Node.js, Python, or Perl.
- Lead complex technical projects from ideation through implementation, ensuring scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
- Contribute to privacy review and audit processes to ensure all systems align with strict privacy standards and principles.
- Build and improve systems such as tracker detection frameworks, privacy protection tools, and related backend services.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the privacy engineering team.
Requirements:
- Strong experience in backend or privacy-focused engineering roles with hands-on development of privacy or security systems.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following: Go, Node.js, Python, or Perl.
- Deep understanding of online privacy threats, tracking mechanisms, and mitigation strategies.
- Experience building scalable, production-grade systems in distributed environments.
- Proven ability to lead end-to-end technical projects in ambiguous or complex problem spaces.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design pragmatic, high-impact solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with privacy technologies such as tracker blockers, data protection systems, or differential privacy is highly valued.
