Job Description

Senior OSP Designer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior OSP Designer based in United States.

This role is a senior-level technical and client-facing position focused on the design and delivery of complex outside plant (OSP) fiber networks that support next-generation broadband infrastructure across the United States. You will lead the development of aerial and underground fiber designs that enable FTTH, 5G expansion, enterprise connectivity, and large-scale network modernization initiatives. Working within a highly specialized utility design engineering environment, you will collaborate with engineers, municipalities, and utility stakeholders to ensure designs are buildable, compliant, and optimized for performance. The role combines deep technical expertise in fiber design with leadership responsibilities, including mentoring junior designers and overseeing quality assurance. You will play a critical part in expanding broadband access and upgrading legacy infrastructure through innovative, scalable network solutions. This is a hands-on, detail-driven role with significant impact on large public and private infrastructure projects.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the design and delivery of complex aerial and underground OSP fiber network projects, including route analysis, feasibility assessment, and constructability evaluation.
  • Oversee end-to-end fiber design production, ensuring accuracy of splice documentation, BOMs, construction drawings, and related engineering deliverables.
  • Perform final QA/QC reviews of design packages to ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and internal quality benchmarks.
  • Support FTTH deployments, utility relocation projects, road moves, and large-scale network modification programs.
  • Coordinate permitting and design requirements with municipalities, utilities, railroads, and regulatory or environmental agencies.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to OSP Designers, supporting skill development and adherence to evolving design standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams during scoping, planning, and fee development phases.
  • Utilize GIS, CAD, and database-driven systems to develop, manage, and refine network designs.
  • Support multiple concurrent projects while maintaining consistency in quality, timelines, and deliverable standards.
  • Serve as a senior technical point of contact for clients, supporting issue resolution and design clarification.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in OSP fiber design, including leadership on complex or large-scale network projects.
  • Strong expertise in fiber network engineering, including FTTH, aerial and underground design, splice architecture, and constructability principles.
  • Proven experience producing and reviewing BOMs, construction packages, route designs, and related technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with GIS and CAD-based design tools, along with database-driven engineering environments.
  • Experience working on utility coordination, permitting processes, and multi-stakeholder infrastructure projects.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to explain and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior designers is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative, cross-functional engineering teams.
Benefits
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage paid by the employer.
  • Retirement savings plan with company matching (401(k)/Roth).
  • Paid time off including vacation, parental leave, and military leave.
  • Life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • Performance-based compensation structure with potential for additional earnings.
  • Education reimbursement and access to professional development resources and training programs.
  • Mentorship programs and internal career advancement opportunities.
  • Wellness programs and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Inclusive workplace culture with philanthropic and community involvement opportunities.
  • Supportive environment focused on work-life balance and long-term career growth.
