Job Description

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, security, and optimization of enterprise network infrastructure, server environments, cloud computing platforms, and automation solutions. This position serves as a subject matter expert for infrastructure planning, systems integration, cybersecurity initiatives, and operational support while ensuring alignment with ITIL best practices and organizational standards.

The Network Engineer will work in a hybrid remote environment, requiring both remote support capabilities and on-site presence as needed for infrastructure deployments, maintenance activities, troubleshooting, and project implementation. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise in networking, systems administration, cloud technologies, automation tools, scripting, and infrastructure security.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Specific duties include, but are not limited, to the following:
Server Administration:
•Perform server deployments, upgrades, migrations, patch management, and lifecycle management activities.
•Administer physical and virtual server environments including installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Windows and Linux operating systems.
•Manage user accounts, permissions, and access control.
•Manage virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, Prox Mox, or equivalent technologies. Monitor server performance, storage utilization, system health, and resource allocation to ensure optimal performance and availability.
•Design and implement high-availability solutions, backup systems, disaster recovery procedures, and business continuity strategies. Maintain Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related infrastructure services.
•Perform routine maintenance such as patching, backups, and performance tuning.
•Monitor server performance and conduct capacity planning.
•Ensure server security in accordance with industry best practices.

Network Administration:
•Design, implement, maintain, and support enterprise network infrastructure including routing, switching, wireless networks, VPN connectivity, firewalls, VPNs and network security solutions including BGP, OSPF, VLANs, Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching, wireless backhaul systems, broadband aggregation networks, and ISP core routing environments.
•Configure, Monitor and troubleshoot firewall client firewalls.
•Perform network capacity planning, optimization, and troubleshooting activities to support organizational growth and operational requirements.
•Develop and maintain network documentation, topology diagrams, IP address management records, and technical standards.
•Utilize network monitoring and management systems to proactively identify and resolve network performance issues affecting enterprise and broadband customers.
•Utilize and manage network monitoring tools.
•Knowledge of Meraki, Juniper, Aruba, Cisco switching technologies.

Additional Technical Skills:
•Design, deploy, and support cloud-based infrastructure and services utilizing platforms such as Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft 365.
•Participate in customer onboarding, infrastructure assessments, technology refresh projects, and migration initiatives.
•Utilize Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) platforms and Professional Services Automation (PSA) systems to monitor customer environments, manage service requests, and maintain service-level agreements.
•Serve as a Tier III escalation resource for complex infrastructure, networking, cloud, and cybersecurity-related incidents.
•Participate in on-call support rotations and emergency response activities for managed service customers and broadband subscribers.
•Create and maintain scripts utilizing PowerShell, Python, Bash, or other scripting languages to automate infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, reporting, system maintenance, and configuration management activities.
•Support cloud backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and cybersecurity initiatives.
•Exposure to automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
•Understanding of ITIL best practices is a plus.
•Develop, maintain, and optimize automation solutions that improve operational efficiency and reduce manual administrative tasks.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Due to the nature of the work, exposure to electrical systems will occur. Standing, sitting, walking, bending, and being able to lift 50 pounds safely is required. And the ability to work on a ladder at a height of 10 feet is required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This position operates in a hybrid remote environment. Employees may work remotely for a portion of their scheduled workweek while maintaining the ability to report on-site for meetings, project implementations, infrastructure maintenance, troubleshooting, emergencies, and other business needs.

Required Education and Experience:
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
•Proven experience in both server administration and core routing and switching.
•7+ years of prior IT experience.
•Strong understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems.
•Experience with network security tools and techniques.
•Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
•Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, ProxMox).
•Combination of experience and education considered in lieu of requirements.
•Experience working in Managed Service Provider role.
•Experience working for an ISP
