Position Summary:
The Department of Ophthalmology andVisual Sciences at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Health Sciences Center isexpanding and seeks an outstanding Comprehensive Ophthalmologist to join ourrapidly growing academic department.
The successful candidate will join acollaborative and dynamic ophthalmology service dedicated to providingexceptional comprehensive eye care to the patients of New Mexico and thesurrounding region. As part of the UNM Health System, the Eye Clinic offers arewarding blend of tertiary referral care and safety-net medicine, providingexposure to a broad spectrum of ophthalmic disease while serving one of themost medically diverse populations in the Southwest.
The incoming physician will have theopportunity to establish a busy comprehensive ophthalmology practice withsignificant opportunities for growth across the full spectrum of comprehensivemedical and surgical ophthalmic care, working collaboratively with a highlycollegial team of subspecialty faculty. The successful candidate will sharecall responsibilities with existing faculty and actively participate in theeducation of residents and medical students.
Our department has recentlyestablished a three-resident-per-class ophthalmology residency program andcontinues to experience significant growth. The successful candidate will havea unique opportunity to make an immediate impact in a state with tremendousneed for comprehensive ophthalmic services while helping shape the future ofophthalmology education and patient care in New Mexico.
Candidates are expected todemonstrate a strong commitment to outstanding patient care, teaching, andscholarly activity within an academic environment. Opportunities for clinicalresearch and clinical trial participation are available through our growingresearch enterprise, which includes dedicated research coordinators,technicians, and faculty collaborators.
