About the Role:
Westminster University is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Landscape Technician to help maintain and enhance the beauty, safety, and sustainability of the university campus. This position reports to the Director of Plants and Facilities Operations, and is responsible for the care and maintenance of landscaped areas, lawns, trees, irrigation systems, and outdoor facilities. The successful candidate will contribute to creating an attractive and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One to two years of experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, horticulture, or a related field.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to operate landscaping equipment safely and effectively.
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance techniques, irrigation systems, and plant care.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience maintaining grounds in a higher education, commercial, or institutional setting.
- Knowledge of native and drought-tolerant landscaping practices.
- Irrigation certification or related horticultural certification.
- Experience with snow removal operations.
- Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain campus lawns, gardens, flower beds, shrubs, trees, and other landscaped areas.
- Perform mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, weeding, mulching, and planting activities.
- Operate and maintain landscape equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and utility vehicles.
- Assist with irrigation system installation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pest-control treatments in accordance with university policies and safety regulations.
- Remove snow and ice from walkways, entrances, and parking areas during winter weather events.
- Assist with campus event setup and outdoor facility preparation as needed.
- Monitor grounds for hazards and report maintenance concerns.
- Maintain cleanliness of outdoor spaces, including litter removal and landscape debris cleanup.
- Follow all safety procedures and participate in required training programs.
- Support sustainability initiatives and environmentally responsible landscaping practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
