This position will work on-site at The Aquatic Center in Mylan Park, West Virginia. The Aquatic Center includes a community pool, an Olympic-sized competition pool, outdoor splash pad, dynamic fitness room, outdoor track and so much more. It has become a local hub of sports tourism by hosting elite-level regional and national Aquatics and Track events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise camper activities to ensure a fun, safe environment
- Execute weekly camp games, activities, on-campus field trips, crafts, etc.
- Correctly respond to any injury or emergency situations
- Provide encouragement to all participants in program
- Monitor camper drop-off and pick-up each day
- Fully participate in all camp games and activities, including swimming during pool time
- and belaying during climbing at the rock wall
- Handle camper disputes and other behavioral issues; accordingly, discipline as
- necessary
- Effectively communicate with parents and guardians throughout the camp day
- Promote a safe, learning environment for campers
- Be available for both morning, afternoon shifts, and periodically throughout the Fall and
- Spring semester
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled
- Other duties as required
Requirements
Minimum of 18 years of age
Current CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) Certification or able to receive certification within 30 days of 1st day of camp (June 2nd)
Complete all other required training upon hiring
Experience in youth programming or supervision preferred
Leadership and supervisory abilities
Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports
Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles
Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate with peers, children, and parents
Ability to work as independently as well as a part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues
Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisions
Knowledge of standard practices in youth supervision
Strong verbal communication skills
Basic computer competency
Ability to handle customer service issues as it relates to Camp activity.
Strong organizational and time management skills
State and federal background check completed and turned in before first day of training.
Physical Demands
Ability to withstand extended periods of time standing, jumping, swiftly moving, and other general physical movements inside and outside
Ability to withstand extended periods of activity and communicating
Ability to lift 30 lbs. on a regular basis
Bending, stooping, lifting
Eye-hand coordination (officiating mechanics)
Hearing and talking
Standing, walking or running for at least 90% of the shift
Work Environment
Outdoor environment
Aquatic pool environment
Office environment/fitness center environment
Moderate to loud noise
