Position Overview

Reporting to the VP, Canadian Operations, the Regional General Manager, North is responsible for the operations of our Terrace, Prince George, Kelowna, Fort St. John and Grande Prairie metal recycling facilities. The RGM, North provides leadership, strategic direction and oversight to the General Managers and Supervisors to achieve safety, quality, environmental, sales, operational, cost and profitability objectives. They also ensure compliance to all company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Enable managers and supervisors to achieve excellence in leadership, operations management, and customer service while driving safe, efficient operations, reducing accidents and errors, and improving profitability.
  • Provides leadership and ensure standards and goals are met with facility environmental, health & safety programs and processes to create a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.
  • Develop strategic and tactical regional initiatives supportive of the ABC group’s goals.
  • Develop a vision for achieving regional sales and production goals, as agreed with the VP, Canadian Operations.
  • Oversee the annual operating and CAPEX budgets for the facilities ensuring they operate within them taking into account: equipment condition; environmental necessities; operational needs; ability to sustain business operations; and business growth.
  • Ensure each facility’s existing Standard Operating Procedures are followed consistently within both the facilities and region.
  • Contribute to development of new Standard Operating Procedures when needs are identified in conjunction with VP, Canadian Operations.
  • Manage and oversee regional level human resources initiatives, including training and performance management.
  • Review facility and regional purchasing and sales results, identifying and implementing continuous improvements opportunities.
  • Analyze financial statements, providing recommendations and guidance to the GM’s for enhanced profitability, and effectively communicates plans and results to senior management.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President, Commercial Operations on marketing and promotional strategies to assist facilities to maximize sales volume, profitability and customer service. Provide market intelligence on regional competition with regard to purchasing, marketing, competitive environment and potential acquisitions.
  • Travel up to 40% of the time and adapt to changing business needs within flexible operating parameters.
  • Special Projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-10 years previous experience in steel scrap, or similar yard operations, and familiarity with all aspects of the physical operations.
  • 5+ years of experience budgeting and profit and loss (P&L) statements.
  • Minimum 3 years of multi-site or large single site management experience.
  • Project management experience is a must.
  • Possess sound understanding of continuous improvement programs.
  • Experience working with ERP and other SAP systems.
  • Familiarity with metrics and dashboards.
  • Possess strong sales and negotiations skills.
  • Ability to develop and build relationships and develop business.
  • Ability to develop dynamic modeling scenarios.
  • Manufacturing and distribution center background is an asset.
  • Safety and environmental culture and background is preferred.
