Medical Respite Caregiver in Oregon City, Oregon at Fathers Heart Street Ministry

Position Summary

The Medical Respite Caregiver provides compassionate, hands-on support to guests recovering from illness, injury, surgery, hospitalization, or other medical needs while experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

The caregiver helps create a safe, calm, and supportive home where guests can rest, recover, and regain their independence. This position works closely with the Care Coordination and medical teams to support each guest's individual recovery plan.

• Provide respectful, compassionate support with daily needs including meals, hydration, hygiene, mobility, laundry, and rest.
• Complete routine wellness checks and recognize and report changes in a guest's condition.
• Follow individual care plans and established medical/respite procedures.
• Help guests prepare for and follow through with medical appointments and follow-up care.
• Communicate changes, concerns, and important updates to the Care Coordination Team.
• Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming home environment.
• Assist with meals, light housekeeping, laundry, and restocking supplies.
• Provide calm, trauma-informed support when guests are experiencing pain, anxiety, frustration, or emotional distress.
• Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and other safety concerns.
• Complete accurate daily documentation and provide a thorough shift handoff.

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, dependable, observant, and calm under pressure. The right person understands that recovery looks different for everyone and can balance warmth and encouragement with appropriate boundaries and consistency.

Experience in caregiving, healthcare, medical respite, residential services, homeless services, behavioral health, or other human-service settings is preferred.
