Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Harrisburg University DPT program is a hybrid 3-year program. The DPT core faculty member holds a faculty appointment, with rank commensurate with experience, and has academic, service, clinical and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the HU DPT program. Under the general direction of the DPT Program Lead, core faculty is responsible for curriculum and content development and routine review and revision to ensure consistency with contemporary evidence-based practice patterns, in their area of content expertise. The core faculty member will cultivate each learner’s professional growth and will participate in coaching/mentoring learners. They will engage in scholarship activities, with priority for those which engage and enhance the academic and professional development of students. They are required to maintain competence in the academic field by remaining current in their own and related disciplines and in the most effective hybrid instructional methods. They will demonstrate effectiveness in the synthesis, interpretation, and communication of new knowledge. They will demonstrate experience in teaching, curriculum development, course coordination, student advising, teamwork, and scholarship. They will participate in service to HU and to the profession of physical therapy. They will assist and support the faculty team in all CAPTE accreditation activities. In addition to instructional and scholarly activity, this individual will participate in activities consistent with the policies of Harrisburg University. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position with instructional terms in spring, summer, and fall. Regular travel to the state of Pennsylvania is required. Participation in DPT program lab immersions is required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties may vary and other duties may be assigned.)

  • The duties of this core faculty position include teaching, clinical, research and service responsibilities. The overall determination of research and clinical activities and allocation of time and effort will be subject to the determination of the Program Lead.
  • Develop, deliver, routinely assess and refine course content within area of content expertise to facilitate quality learning experiences for students
  • Ensure the scope, depth, and breadth of course content, and maintenance of current records of student participation and grades, comply with program and CAPTE standards.
  • Develop and administer effective student learning assessments to determine achievement of student learning outcomes in classroom and/or laboratory settings
  • Provide learner mentoring/coaching consistent with HU DPT learner coaching model
  • Provide training and mentoring for course and lab assistants
  • Participate in DPT programmatic activities to support program development, assessment, accreditation and maintenance of a high-quality DPT program
  • All faculty provide support for CAPTE self-study and annual accreditation activities, student ceremonies, DPT faculty committees and faculty search committees.
  • Attendance at DPT meetings and educational events is expected.
  • Participates in faculty development in area of content expertise, hybrid course delivery, virtual reality and immersive technology
  • Contributes to an environment that promotes growth, equity and freedom of speech
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

    REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a faculty team
  • Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for teaching in physical therapy education
  • Adherence to professional standards, including the APTA Core Values and Code of Ethics
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting students and the profession of physical therapy
  • Strong commitment to inclusivity and diversity, and ability to interact effectively with diverse cultural and ethnic groups
  • Knowledge, skill and ability to effectively demonstrate and provide accurate and constructive feedback to DPT learners regarding professional behaviors, affective skills and abilities, and clinical skills
  • Ability to facilitate learner acquisition of the skills and abilities required for entry-level clinical practice
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels

    DESIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Academic experience in a DPT entry-level educational program specific to this content area
  • Knowledge and experience in a hybrid educational model or development plan to improve skillset in distance learning/hybrid instruction
  • Demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness and desire to implement new and current technologies in both distance and onsite educational environments
  • Demonstrated innovation, organization, problem solving, leadership, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills in areas related to professional practice
  • Evidence of an established scholarly agenda

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Earned Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. DPT with ABPTS Board Certified Clinical Specialization preferred. Terminal academic degree preferred (i.e. PhD, EdD, DSci)
  • Minimum of three years of full-time post licensure clinical experience
  • Minimum of two years’ experience teaching, curriculum development in a physical therapy education program
  • Active, unrestricted Pennsylvania Physical Therapy license
