Job Summary:
The purpose of the Fire Alarm Engineer is to support sales and operations in all aspects listed below. The position requires constant communications with customers, sales and operations. A high level of technical experience with the below product types is preferred. The position requires good customer service skills, public speaking, and writing / email etiquette. Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume workload environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design/Build projects to meet code and/or customer requirements or otherwise as directed.
- Take-Offs of Engineered Projects.
- Technical review of Engineered Projects for (Code or customer requirements) Compliance and informing Sales of deviations.
- Preparation of equipment cost estimates.
- Preparation of quotes using quoting tools.
- Sales Department may wish to perform some of these duties by themselves. It is imperative that the applications engineer and the sales person communicate jointly about the requirements and work load.
- When local code interpretations, regulations or local amendments are in question, the Fire Alarm Engineer shall hold lead responsibility in order to ascertain compliance.
- Provides input to sales and operations regarding the technical and business considerations for projects. This input could be associated with areas such as estimating, timing, special resource needs, special technical solutions, code compliancy and requirements or other aspects peculiar to specific projects.
- Supports field personnel, engineering and sales with their request for design/installation/commissioning/Code related questions.
- Assists AutoCAD drawers in preparation of drawings as needed.
- Interprets project documents, estimate, and other information as available to select the proper equipment to achieve the scope of work required in the most economical and functional manner.
- Supports sales and operations in determining if customer expectations are similar to Bosch Building Technologies and if these can be achieved based upon Bosch Building Technologies estimate or contractual scope. Provides feedback on this as appropriate internally and externally.
- Recommends technical solutions to sales and operations. Assist Sales team during estimating phase and, on request, demonstrate life safety systems to existing or new customers.
- Identifies change order opportunities and coordinates with sales to document, pursue, and book them.
- Provides support to Bosch Building Technologies and other contractors to solve building operating issues that go beyond the controls or special systems operation.
- Communicates with internal employees as required to ensure Bosch Building Technologies Take-Off, Labor and Bill of Material and is accurate and timely and estimated productivity is achieved in all areas.
- Provides leadership and input to others as requested or required to assist in the accurate estimation, design, installation, start up and commissioning of Security and Life Safety Systems.
- Communicates with external organizations as required such as consulting engineers, building owners, and other contractors to ensure accurate and timely engineering.
- Works with key partners and manufacturers to develop and maintain trusted relationships.
- Maintains, in cooperation with sales, pricing updates for products in the database.
- Maintain membership in the applicable associations
- Maintain or supply data for proper configuration management
- Assist Sales with site surveys of existing properties for system upgrades or modifications as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of field and system design experience
- 2+ years of Fire Alarm Systems experience
- Microsoft Office Suite experience
- Email Applications experience
- Blue Beam/Adobe experience
- Database Structure experience
- Ability to successfully pass a background check
- Good driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of sprinkler systems experience
Physical Demands:
In general, the following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English, (ie see, hear, speak and write clearly) in order to communicate with colleagues and/or customers
- Manual dexterity required for occasional reaching, lifting of light office objects, and operating office equipment
- Sitting, standing, walking in office environments and construction sites
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to work at heights over 1.8m (6 feet)
Working Conditions:
In general, the following conditions of the work environment are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate
- Will be required to be on site with customers or contractors, with or without BBT colleagues to manage the expectations and deliverables. Sites range from general office environments to new construction.
- Driving to customer sites is required
