Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Managed Security Services based in United States.
The Director of Managed Security Services will lead the development and growth of a security-focused managed services practice supporting highly regulated clients.
This leadership role combines strategic vision, operational ownership, and hands-on expertise to build scalable security operations and managed detection capabilities.
The ideal candidate will define service offerings, establish security processes, and ensure strong delivery standards across client engagements.
You will oversee security operations, compliance programs, tooling strategies, and incident response frameworks while partnering with internal teams and external stakeholders.
This is a build-phase opportunity for an experienced security leader who can create structure, improve maturity, and drive trust in a growing security practice.
The role requires deep MSSP experience, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and executive audiences.
The Director of Managed Security Services will be responsible for owning the security service line strategy, operational execution, and client-facing security leadership. This role will drive the development of managed security capabilities while ensuring reliable service delivery, compliance readiness, and continuous improvement.
- Own the strategy, roadmap, tooling ecosystem, and operating model for the managed security services offering.
- Define service-level agreements, escalation procedures, quality standards, and operational processes for 24/7 managed detection and response services.
- Lead security incident response activities, including detection, investigation, client communication, remediation coordination, and post-incident reviews.
- Oversee security operations functions, including SIEM monitoring, threat detection, alert management, vulnerability management, and incident response workflows.
- Manage and optimize security technologies across SIEM, EDR/XDR, SOAR, identity security, email security, vulnerability management, and threat intelligence platforms.
- Evaluate and implement new security tools, technologies, and strategic partnerships as the practice expands.
- Build and maintain security policies, controls, documentation, and evidence collection processes supporting internal and client compliance requirements.
- Lead compliance initiatives and audit preparation activities related to frameworks such as SOC 2 Type II, HITRUST, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and HIPAA.
- Manage compliance automation platforms and ensure continuous monitoring, control mapping, and audit readiness.
- Act as the primary security advisor for client discussions, sales engagements, security reviews, and executive business conversations.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate security practices into service delivery operations.
- Establish security metrics, reporting frameworks, and maturity indicators for leadership visibility.
- Build and mentor the security operations function while remaining hands-on during the early growth stage of the practice.
The ideal candidate is an experienced security leader with a strong background in managed security services, security operations, and compliance program development. They should be comfortable balancing strategic leadership with hands-on execution in a fast-growing environment.
- Proven leadership experience within a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) environment; enterprise-only security experience does not replace MSSP experience.
- Hands-on expertise with security operations and SIEM platforms such as Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, QRadar, LogRhythm, or similar technologies.
- Strong understanding of the broader cybersecurity ecosystem, including EDR/XDR, SOAR, vulnerability management, identity and access security, email security, and threat intelligence.
- Demonstrated experience building and managing security and compliance programs, including supporting SOC 2 Type II and/or HITRUST audits.
- Experience using compliance automation platforms such as Drata, Vanta, Secureframe, or comparable solutions.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks including SOC 2, HITRUST, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and HIPAA.
- Ability to translate complex security risks into clear recommendations for technical teams, executives, and clients.
- Experience supporting regulated industries such as healthcare, life sciences, or similarly compliance-driven environments is preferred.
- Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC/GCIH, or CISA are a plus.
- Experience launching or scaling a security service offering from an early stage is highly valued.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to create processes, structure, and operational maturity.
- High integrity, discretion, and professionalism when managing sensitive security information.
- Adaptable, proactive, and comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment.
- Fully remote work environment.
- Opportunity to build and lead a growing managed security services practice.
- High-impact leadership role with significant ownership and visibility.
- Ability to influence security strategy, operations, and service delivery models.
- Exposure to complex cybersecurity challenges within regulated industries.
- Collaborative environment focused on innovation, trust, and continuous improvement.
- Competitive compensation package based on experience and qualifications.
