Title: Diagnostic Imaging Tech Assistant /Office Clerk
Reporting Relationship: Diagnostic Imaging Department Manager
General Summary of Responsibilities:
The Imaging Tech Aide supports the daily operations of the Imaging Department by assisting radiologic technologists, preparing patients, transporting patients, maintaining equipment and supplies, and performing clerical duties. 60% of the time this employee is also responsible for assisting radiologic technologists and sonographers in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
40% of the time this employee is responsible for reception duties at the Imaging/reception office. This employee will work alongside the Imaging Office Assistant to coordinate patient appointments, scheduling, charge verification, and possess a pleasant disposition and care for the patients in a supportive manner. Maintain an organized reception area and an orderly fashion of the waiting room. This employee will be expected to perform a variety of operational duties, such as be able to use the phone system, computer systems, file and prepare documents and assist in performance improvement projects.
Essential clinical requirements for tech assistant:
- Transport patients safely to and from the Imaging Department.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure rooms are clean and stocked.
- Assist technologists with patient positioning and exam preparation.
- Clean and disinfect imaging equipment and patient care areas.
- Restock linens, contrast supplies, and department inventory.
- Assist with scheduling, answering phones, and other clerical duties.
- Enter patient information into the electronic medical record as appropriate.
- Escort patients and provide excellent customer service.
- Assist with moving patients using proper body mechanics and transfer equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support department operations.
Essential clinical requirements for Office Clerk:
- Assist department manager and Office Assistant in overseeing the daily function of the Medical Imaging Department included but not limited to patient and staff scheduling, safety and quality of department operations, public relations and professional conduct of departmental members.
- Delegate tasks to technologists and radiology staff as appropriate.
- Schedule and coordinate simple and complex imaging procedures.
- Perform a variety of department operation duties that will require on occasion independent judgement and good organization skills.
- Collaborate and interact well with the staff, allied health care personnel, physicians, patients and the community, in order to care for patients and project a positive image of the department and the hospital.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate quality patient care with special attention to patient age and needs.
- Answer departmental phone calls and handle messages.
- Participate in teaching, mentoring and overseeing students shadowing in department as part of an internship or cadet program.
- Data entry for exams in EMR and PACS.
- Sending and receiving exams to/from outside providers/facilities.
- Handle imaging related records requests
- Exam room set up and clean up.
- Patient transport, exam prep, and screening
- Assist with scheduling, charge verification, and appointment reminders
Essential requirements of the imaging department:
- Must be able to work shifts during the day, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Communicates and interacts well with the staff, allied health care personnel, physicians, patients and the community, so as to project a positive image of the department and the hospital, and to coordinate quality patient care with special attention to patient age and needs.
- Maintain confidentiality of the hospital related information.
- Transport patients to and from various patients care areas being aware of individual patient needs.
- Maintain and complete patient records and reports.
- Report equipment concerns promptly to the appropriate service provider and imaging manager.
- Maintain proper radiation protection for self and patients.
- Flexible attitude and ability to adapt to every changing workload, with the willingness to cross-train into other modalities of imaging.
- Participates in own performance evaluation by identifying individual goals and reviewing progress with department manager.
- Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence by meeting annual requirements for validation of competency in specified skills.
- Be alert and able to concentrate on work with many interruptions and have good memory retention for work and cases completed for the duration of shift and on call hours.
