Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Life Sciences based in the United States.
This role sits at the intersection of advanced AI systems, scientific computing, and real-world drug discovery applications, where engineering directly enables breakthroughs in life sciences. You will act as a key technical driver within high-impact client engagements, bridging cutting-edge Large Quantitative Models (LQMs) with complex scientific workflows. The position requires strong autonomy and the ability to operate in highly ambiguous, research-driven environments where experimentation and execution go hand in hand. You will design and deliver scalable software solutions that integrate simulation, data pipelines, and AI-driven systems into production-grade environments. Working closely with scientific and engineering teams, you will translate complex research requirements into robust, high-performance systems. This is a highly impactful role for an engineer who thrives at the frontier of AI, computation, and scientific discovery.
- Lead end-to-end technical delivery for client-facing scientific and AI-driven projects, ensuring successful execution of complex workflows.
- Design, build, and deploy scalable software systems that extend or wrap scientific models, simulation tools, and R&D workflows.
- Act as a technical liaison between researchers, product teams, and engineering stakeholders to translate scientific requirements into production-ready solutions.
- Develop and maintain cloud-based infrastructure, compute environments, and data pipelines to support large-scale scientific workloads.
- Optimize system performance and ensure reliability across distributed and high-compute environments.
- Integrate core AI technologies, including Large Quantitative Models and agent-based systems, into client-specific scientific applications.
- Diagnose technical bottlenecks and independently architect solutions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Python and modern system design principles.
- Proven ability to operate independently in high-ambiguity, fast-paced environments with strong ownership of technical outcomes.
- Hands-on experience with cloud orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, batch processing systems, and workflow engines like Airflow.
- Strong experience building REST APIs, managing databases, and applying Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar tools).
- Solid understanding of scalable software architecture and production-grade system design.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of delivering complex systems in customer-facing environments.
- Nice to have: experience in drug discovery, cheminformatics, scientific simulation, or computational chemistry.
- Nice to have: familiarity with HPC, GPU computing, AI agents, or multi-agent systems.
- Competitive compensation package including base salary, performance-based bonuses, and equity participation.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage for employees and dependents.
- Retirement savings plan with company matching contributions.
- Paid parental leave and inclusive family-building benefits.
- Flexible PTO policy, seasonal company-wide breaks, and support for work-life balance.
- Remote-friendly and flexible work arrangements depending on role requirements.
- Strong focus on career development, learning, and cross-functional exposure to cutting-edge AI and scientific work.
- Opportunity to work on high-impact problems at the intersection of AI, life sciences, and advanced simulation.
