Overview
Develops or modifies designs for diaphragm valve product lines and provides product support by performing the following duties:
Responsibilities
Analyzes research data or customer specifications or proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal.
Develops work plans and schedules, prepares progress reports. Confers with research, customer service, sales personnel or customers to clarify or resolve problems and develop design.
Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics including establishment of new part numbers and bills of material or configuration rules.
Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
Plans and develops experimental test programs and/or performs calculations to verify design adequacy.
Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Prepares reports for newly performed tests or analysis.
Confers with customer service, sales, customers and other engineering personnel to fully assess impact of proposed design modifications.
Prepares or directs preparation and scheduling of customer sales master and submittal drawings. Checks work performed by designers and senior designers for accuracy and completeness.
Performs tolerance studies.
Gathers and/or presents technical information in response to questions from engineering, sales and manufacturing personnel and customers. Resolves production problems either in house or at suppliers' facilities.
Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks, including production drawings.
Qualifications
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisor responsibilities. Provides technical direction to assigned design/drafting personnel.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering or technical equivalent from four-year college or university. 5-10 years of applicable work experience is desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents in English. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and calculus. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. A thorough understanding of Boolean logic is required.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Ability to understand and apply Boolean logic.
COMPUTING SKILLS
Ability to utilize computer aided design (PROE preferred) and engineering tools. Ability to utilize word processing software, prepare spreadsheets and databases and to navigate and use custom applications in a MS Windows environment.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
EIT Certificate is preferred.
