Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.About the Role
Blue Origin is growing a team developing advanced electromagnetic and power systems technology. We're looking for a Senior Electromagnetic Design Engineer to own electromagnetic design work — from magnetic circuit sizing through detailed electromagnetic and thermal analysis — supporting a new generation of power systems hardware. You'll work across the full development lifecycle: concept sizing, detailed design, analysis correlation, support through first-build test and field support.
This is a hands-on design role on a small, high-output team where you'll own subsystems end-to-end rather than a narrow slice of a large program.
What You'll Do
Perform electromagnetic design and sizing of core electromagnetic components, including magnetic circuit design and material selection (magnetic steels, permanent magnets, insulation systems)
Conduct detailed electromagnetic finite element analysis (FEA) to predict performance, losses, and flux distribution
Develop and correlate coupled electromagnetic-thermal models to predict component temperatures under transient and steady-state operating conditions
Analyze performance under fault and off-nominal conditions and support protection/coordination requirements
Generate design documentation, drawings, and specifications for procurement and manufacturing
Support prototype build, instrumentation planning, and first-build test and validation
Collaborate closely with mechanical, power conversion, and controls engineers on integrated system design
Identify and drive resolution of design risks using data and analysis
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, plus 8+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Demonstrated experience in electromagnetic design of electric machines or electromagnetic power equipment
Proficiency with electromagnetic FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS Maxwell, JMAG, Motor-CAD, or equivalent)
Strong fundamentals in electromagnetics and materials (core steels, magnet grades, insulation systems)
Experience taking a design from concept through detailed design and into hardware
Ability to obtain and maintain any required government security clearance/access, as applicable
Experience with coupled electromagnetic-thermal-structural analysis
Must be able to comply with U.S. export control regulations, which may require U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a power/electromagnetics focus
Experience with high-performance or high-reliability electromagnetic equipment
Familiarity with industry electromagnetic equipment design and testing standards
Hands-on experience with equipment test and validation (temperature rise, efficiency, fault testing)
Experience in aerospace, energy, or other highly regulated/high-reliability industries
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in an office and lab/manufacturing environment, including occasional exposure to hardware test areas; may require standing, bending, lifging up to 25 lbs, and use of PPE.
Base Pay Range for:
WA applicants is $156,802.00 - $219,522.45Other site ranges may differ
