Description

The Traveling Project Director leads and manages a business unit responsible for profit and loss aligned with overall department business plan. The Project Director has overall accountability for ensuring construction projects are performed in a safe and effective manner. This role is fully responsible for cultivating and securing opportunities for future projects by providing excellent customer service, injury free work environment by ensuring safe work practices, maintaining quality assurance, and building financially successful projects that are driven by company directives. The Project Director typically oversees 25+ million in annual revenue volume depending on types of markets; with Senior Project Managers and Project Managers reporting to them as well as most administrative staff members. This position will manage teams over several states traveling 50%-100% working time.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Managing all business aspects with their team for multiple concurrent projects while concurrently ensuring financial targets are met while maintaining established quality standards.
  2. Actively manage the workload, professional development, and client development skills of project
  3. management staff. Promote client development while developing professional skills of project management staff.
  4. Promote positive customer relations by dealing professionally and fairly with all contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, and continually instilling this philosophy in the business unit with regards to safety, quality, customer service, and profitability.
  5. Serve as subject matter expert for client specific design and our specific scope of work.
  6. Investigate and educate direct reports on industry changes for data centers, advanced technology projects, BMS/EPMS, and other relevant specialty systems to stay in front of market trends.
  7. Engage all relevant stakeholders if performing or pursuing work in an established region of EC Electric.
  8. Initiate, execute, and document a quality pre-con, start-up meeting aligned with company standards.
  9. Accountable for contract management, claims, and disputes resolutions.
  10. Working with the Estimating department to review estimate, RECAPS and turnover, as well as the ability to estimate and procure electrical projects in a competitive market successfully.
  11. Acts as a mentor for new and existing Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and Assistant Project Managers on properly managing their teams.
  12. Perform weekly and monthly reviews with teams to ensure adherence to schedules, quality of work, safety, administration, and profitability.
  13. Ensure qualified personnel are in place for making specific project assignments that will meet with project deliverables and make specific project assignments to meet project needs.
  14. Schedule, facilitate, and document project close out meetings. Verify project data sheets and photos (with client’s permission) for all completed projects.
  15. Drive division profitability through effective project execution.
  16. Develop the organization to achieve excellence through continuous improvement. Support lesson learned activity and implement identified initiatives.
  17. Ensure adherence to EC Electric’s standards of quality, safety, and best practices.
  18. Recruit, manage, and develop the group of direct reports.
  19. Responsible for work assignments, hiring, termination, promotions, and performance appraisals.
  20. Review the overall contractual requirements and risks for all projects.
  21. Manage project review process with emphasis on insuring quality financial forecasting.
  22. Ensure construction estimates are completed to align with project workflow and customer’s master schedule.
  23. Proactively and systematically communicate challenges, risks, and successes to the Project Executive, the team, all direct reports.
  24. Provides and maintains annual business plans in conjunction with the overall company, updating results on a quarterly basis.
  25. Demonstrate a consistent ability to conduct daily tact and professionalism in communicating with external and internal customers.
  26. Other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Experience in supervising 60+ employees (both supervisors and non-supervisory, bargaining and non-bargaining).
  • Proficient in interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and discipling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Master’s degree (MA/MA) from a four-year college or university in Construction Engineering and Management; and 15+ years of experience in electrical construction and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ideally, will have a 15-year (or more) proven track record of successful project results.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, ViewPoint project management software, Bluebeam, and CONEST estimating software, and general internet browsers.
  • Expert level time management and organization skills, with strong verbal and written communication skills and the highest level of professionalism.
  • Certificates and Licenses:
  • Valid driver’s license. PMP preferred but not required. OSHA 30. State electrical licensing.
  • This position requires 60-80% travel with overnight travel as needed.

Benefits

Salary range for this position is $155,000-$250,000 annually.
