Appian System Administrator - Clearance Required

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Appian System Administrator - Clearance Required based in United States.

This role supports the administration and sustainment of mission-critical applications built on the Appian platform.
You will manage platform environments across development, testing, staging, and production while helping maintain system reliability and performance.
The position combines application administration, deployments, access management, monitoring, troubleshooting, security, and operational support.
You will collaborate closely with developers, architects, DevSecOps engineers, database administrators, cybersecurity specialists, and functional stakeholders.
The role also involves identity and access integrations, cloud configuration, performance optimization, and security hardening.
You will contribute to Agile delivery, release activities, testing, documentation, and continuous improvements across enterprise environments.

Accountabilities:

The Appian System Administrator will oversee platform operations and provide hands-on technical support throughout the application lifecycle. The role requires strong coordination across technical and security teams to maintain stable, secure, and high-performing environments.

  • Administer and maintain Appian environments supporting application development, testing, staging, and production.
  • Perform application deployments, configuration changes, environment promotions, and release support according to approved procedures.
  • Manage users, groups, roles, permissions, service accounts, and access configurations in accordance with security and program policies.
  • Monitor platform health, performance, capacity, logs, services, integrations, and system availability, taking corrective action when required.
  • Support Appian Cloud configuration and coordinate with hosting or vendor support teams when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot complex application, integration, performance, configuration, and connectivity issues in collaboration with development and infrastructure teams.
  • Support identity and access integrations, including LDAP, Active Directory, SSO, SAML, certificates, and related authentication mechanisms.
  • Assist with in-memory data architecture, environment sizing, and horizontal or vertical scaling activities.
  • Coordinate with database, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and solution architecture teams on platform changes, maintenance, and incident resolution.
  • Support security hardening, configuration compliance, patching, and operational documentation.
  • Maintain configuration records, runbooks, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge-management resources.
  • Participate in Agile planning, release activities, testing, user acceptance testing, and production implementations.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings substantial experience in enterprise application or systems administration, with a strong understanding of application operations, security, integrations, and troubleshooting. Appian administration experience is highly valued, particularly in environments requiring disciplined security and operational controls.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems administration, enterprise application administration, application operations, or a related technical role.
  • Demonstrated experience administering enterprise applications, including deployments, configuration, access controls, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with platform monitoring, logs, diagnostic tools, configuration management, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience with identity and access technologies such as LDAP, Active Directory, SSO, SAML, and certificates.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise application architecture, integrations, security, and operational support processes.
  • Active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Appian Platform administration or application operations experience strongly preferred.
  • Appian certification or formal Appian training is a plus.
  • Experience with Appian Cloud or Appian GovCloud and related platform support processes preferred.
  • Experience with Appian in-memory KDB engines, environment sizing, scaling, and performance optimization is desirable.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense contract writing, acquisition, or other federal mission-critical applications is a plus.
  • Familiarity with DoD RMF, STIGs, DISA security guidance, and security hardening activities is preferred.
  • ITIL Foundation, Security+, or a comparable technical certification is desirable.
  • Experience working in Agile or SAFe delivery environments is a plus.

Benefits:

  • Remote position based in the United States.
  • Target salary of up to $144,000.
  • Compensation may vary based on location, internal equity, business considerations, contract requirements, education, experience, skills, and security clearance qualifications.
