Job Description

Entry-Level Billing RepresentativeDenials, Eligibility & Patient Account Follow-Up

Ready to start a career in healthcare billing? We’ll help you build the skills.

We’re looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Entry-Level Billing Representative to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys solving problems, helping people, and learning new skills while building a career in healthcare administration and revenue cycle management.

In this role, you’ll help ensure insurance claims are processed accurately by resolving referral and eligibility issues, communicating with insurance companies and provider offices, and helping patients understand their account balances and payment options.

No extensive billing experience? That’s okay. We’re looking for someone with strong communication skills, attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.

What You’ll Do

As part of our billing team, you’ll:

  • Review insurance denials and help resolve issues involving missing or incomplete referrals.
  • Contact primary care physician (PCP) offices to obtain and follow up on referral documentation.
  • Help patients understand what information may be needed from their PCP for insurance coverage.
  • Use payer websites and billing systems to verify referrals, insurance eligibility, benefits, coverage dates, plan information, and patient cost-sharing requirements.
  • Research eligibility issues such as inactive coverage, incorrect member information, or coordination of benefits discrepancies.
  • Communicate with insurance payers and patients to help resolve coverage and account issues.
  • Accurately document eligibility results, payer communications, patient conversations, and next steps in the billing system.
  • Update insurance information and escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate team.
  • Reach out to patients regarding outstanding self-pay balances and explain charges in a clear, respectful, and patient-friendly way.
  • Assist patients with payment arrangements when appropriate and in accordance with department guidelines.
  • Follow up consistently on unresolved balances and payment arrangements.
  • Refer billing disputes and financial assistance requests to the appropriate team.
  • Identify recurring denial issues and share insights that can help improve billing processes and prevent future errors.
  • Collaborate with teammates and other departments to keep accounts moving toward resolution.
What We’re Looking For

You don’t need years of billing experience to make an impact. We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn and ready to grow.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0–2 years of experience in customer service, healthcare, administrative support, or a related environment preferred.
  • Interest in learning medical billing, insurance requirements, and payer systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable speaking by phone with patients, insurance companies, and provider offices.
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and technology.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow established guidelines while knowing when to ask questions or escalate an issue.
  • Positive attitude and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
Skills That Will Help You Succeed
  • Customer service: You communicate with patience, professionalism, and empathy.
  • Problem-solving: You enjoy figuring out what’s causing an issue and helping move it toward resolution.
  • Attention to detail: You understand that accurate insurance and account information matters.
  • Organization: You can manage follow-ups and keep detailed, accurate documentation.
  • Communication: You’re comfortable discussing insurance requirements, balances, and payment options clearly and tactfully.
  • Teamwork: You’re ready to learn from others and contribute to a supportive team.
  • Growth mindset: You’re curious, motivated, and interested in developing your knowledge of healthcare billing and revenue cycle operations.
Start Building Your Career in Healthcare

If you’re looking for an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of healthcare billing, strengthen your problem-solving skills, and build a foundation for a career in revenue cycle management, we’d love to hear from you.

Bring your customer service skills, curiosity, and attention to detail. We’ll give you the opportunity to put them to work in healthcare.

What I changed: I shifted the posting from a task-heavy description to a more candidate-focused story, emphasized that this is genuinely entry level, made the transferable skills clearer for candidates coming from customer service or administrative backgrounds, and highlighted healthcare/revenue-cycle career development without removing the important denial, eligibility, referral, and self-pay responsibilities.
