Job Description

POSITION: Custodian

DEPARTMENT: Operations

LOCATION: The Rose Center; 80 Pitt St., New York, NY 10002

REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager

SALARY: $39,088.90 - $43,373.88

START DATE: ASAP

SCHEDULE: Full time, Monday - Friday, 7am – 4pm with possible evening and weekend hours for special events.

JOB SUMMARY: The Custodian will support the efficient operation of all spaces at 80 Pitt with an eye for detail and a strong sense of ownership. The Custodian is responsible for daily maintenance and upkeep of all bathrooms, common spaces and classrooms at 80 Pitt Street. This includes garbage removal, floor care, and general cleaning. In addition, the Custodian supports the programs with event set up and room set up as directed by the Facilities Manager or OAC Manager, as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Previous youth based/school/community center security experience a plus.
  • Previous experience working with a diverse population.
  • The ideal candidate must be personable, energetic, and enthusiastic.
  • Candidates must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; three (3) Reference Checks; Physical with updated TB Test (Fees may apply).
  • Valid CPR/AED Pro-certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain the safety and appearance of the building to the highest standard, including:

  • Dusting and cleaning all surface areas, fixtures, and furniture
  • Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping flooring
  • Restocking, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms
  • Trash collection and removal
  • Addressing spills and trip hazards
  • Clearing debris from exterior walkways and roof areas
  • Organize and restock cleaning supplies.
  • Execute room and event set up, including tables, chairs, food prep stations, etc.
  • Responds to building-related emergencies as directed by the Facilities Manager.
  • Maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, program participants, families, community members and program staff.
  • Provide above duties at 175 Delancey Street, when requested
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates must be able to sit or stand for long periods, climb stairs, lift or move up 50 lbs.
