Job Description
Location: Gold Bar Mine – Tonkin
Description:
The Maintenance Technician at our rural Nevada closure operation is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding mechanical equipment that supports the mine’s crushing and processing operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that plant systems and mechanical equipment operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Working closely with maintenance, operations, and planning teams, the technician performs routine preventative maintenance, identifies mechanical issues, and supports equipment rebuilds to minimize downtime and maximize operational performance. This position is ideal for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude who enjoy hands-on work in a dynamic mining and processing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and rebuilding of processing equipment.
- Maintain and repair mill area equipment including pumps, piping systems, vessels, and conveyors.
- Execute preventative and predictive maintenance routes to maintain equipment reliability.
- Inspect mechanical systems and components regularly to identify potential failures or wear.
- Assist with equipment rebuilds and component replacements as required.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and ensure safe maintenance practices.
Operational Support:
- Conduct troubleshooting activities and communicate recommended corrective actions.
- Provide technical input into annual primary maintenance plans developed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Support plant operations by ensuring mechanical equipment remains operational and reliable.
- Submit maintenance work requests when issues or potential improvements are identified.
Work Management and Documentation:
- Close completed work orders and provide accurate completion notes and documentation.
- Maintain documentation and updates for plant-specific maintenance tasks and troubleshooting procedures.
- Carry out routine reporting related to maintenance activities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work with the Maintenance Planner to coordinate ordering and placement of spare parts and materials needed to complete maintenance tasks.
- Coordinate with plant operations to schedule maintenance work and reduce operational disruptions.
Safety and Compliance:
- Actively support Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management systems and regulatory compliance.
- Follow all safety procedures, industrial hygiene requirements, and environmental standards.
- Participate in daily line-out meetings, weekly safety meetings, and safety initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience preferred, ideally in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience working with crushing and processing equipment including jaw crushers, gyratory crushers, cone crushers, and conveyor systems preferred.
- Millwright skills include hydraulic systems, mechanical alignment, and equipment rebuilds.
- Welding experience preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and maintenance procedures.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
- Climbing ladders and stairs and walking over uneven ground in active mining and processing areas.
- Moderate to heavy lifting of tools, parts, and equipment components.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and dust.
- Exposure to mechanical equipment, noise, and plant environments such as crushing and milling areas.
- May be required to wear a respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work performed at elevations between 6,000–8,000 feet.
- Occasional overtime may be required to support operational needs.
- Capable of working remotely in Gold Bar's Tonkin location.
