Reporting to the Academic Director, Williams Lake, the Learning Strategist supports student success, engagement, and transition at the Williams Lake campus through collaboration with faculty, academic supports, student services, and campus partners. The position works with students across multiple faculties and program areas to promote academic success, retention, and positive student experiences.
This role collaborates closely with faculty, Academic Advising, Library Services, Indigenous Education, Accessibility Services, and other student support areas to assist students in navigating academic and personal challenges that may impact success. Responsibilities include developing supports, coordinating initiatives, assisting with classroom delivery, and contributing to student engagement and retention efforts across the Williams Lake campus.
The Learning Strategist, Williams Lake provides direct support to students through tutoring, academic coaching, resource navigation, and referral services. The position also supports instructors and classrooms through operational and administrative assistance for in-person, online, and hybrid course delivery models.
Workload may fluctuate based on student and operational needs. Special projects and initiatives related to student success, campus engagement, and academic support may also be assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engages in planning, developing, coordinating and implementing student success and retention initiatives across multiple faculties and program areas at the Williams Lake campus.
- Provides academic coaching, tutoring, and study strategy support to students in individual and group settings.
- Provides support for classes using various instructional modalities, including assisting with attendance tracking, Teams class sign-ins, classroom technology setup, and student engagement activities.
- Collaborates with faculty, staff, and campus partners to identify and respond to student support needs.
- Designs, plans and coordinates workshops, orientations, presentations, and student engagement activities.
- Supports campus initiatives related to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and Indigenous student success.
- Participates in committees, working groups, and campus events to build student success and engagement.
- Assists faculty and instructors with classroom operations and course delivery in in-person, online, and hybrid learning environments.
- Maintains current knowledge of student support practices, learning strategies, and educational technologies.
- Connects students with campus and community resources including academic advising, accessibility services, financial supports, Indigenous supports, and wellness resources.
- Develops and maintains resource materials and information related to student success and academic support services.
- Assists students in navigating university systems, policies, and procedures.
- Maintains confidential student information in accordance with university privacy policies and procedures.
- Provides discreet and tactful service as the initial contact in the Library and Learning Commons while providing Library services such as check-out, check-in, library accounts, library cards, holds, overdues, fines and reserves, liaising with Kamloops Library.

EDUCATION:
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years of experience working with students in a post-secondary or educational environment including
- Experience providing tutoring, coaching, or academic support services, supporting diverse student populations
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to establish priorities, organize work, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
- Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to support students from diverse backgrounds and with varying learning needs.
- Strong problem-solving and student support skills.
- Ability to support classroom technology and online learning platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Teams, and related software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of student success and retention practices in a post-secondary environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- General office conditions
- Sitting at desk or computer for extended periods of time
- Hours of work may include evenings, and early morning to meet schedules of student population and departmental needs.
