POSITION: PEDIATRICIAN STAFF – FAMILY PRACTICE/INTERNAL MEDICINE

RESPOSIBLE TO: CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

FLSA: EXEMPT

Job Type: Full-time

Patient Population

The Pediatrician provides comprehensive primary care services for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults from birth through age 21 years. The provider will manage both acute and chronic medical conditions and deliver preventive care consistent with evidence-based pediatric guidelines.

The candidate will be fully supported by experienced nurses and medical assistants to provide team-based care that is grounded by evidence-based best practices. This practice provides comprehensive care and is deeply rooted in the local community.

Founded in 1971, Imperial Beach Community Clinic (IBCC) is a fully integrated community based FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Clinic) non-profit with two clinics located in San Diego County, Nestor and Imperial Beach) and with over 100 employees.

Clinical Responsibilities: The Pediatrician will:

  1. Provide well-child examinations, developmental screenings, and preventive care services for patients from birth through 21 years of age.
  2. Diagnose and treat acute illnesses, injuries, and common pediatric conditions, including respiratory infections, asthma, allergies, dermatologic conditions, gastrointestinal complaints, and behavioral health concerns.
  3. Administer and oversee childhood and adolescent immunizations in accordance with CDC and California immunization schedules.
  4. Perform age-appropriate developmental, behavioral, and mental health screenings and coordinate referrals to specialists and community resources as needed.
  5. Provide care coordination for patients with chronic medical conditions, including asthma, obesity, ADHD, developmental delays, and other pediatric health concerns.
  6. Conduct sports physicals, school physicals, and other required medical evaluations.
  7. Participate in the care of newborns and infants transitioning from local hospitals and maternity services into the outpatient setting.
  8. Collaborate with behavioral and dental health providers, care coordinators, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to ensure comprehensive, family-centered care.
  9. Educate patients and families regarding preventive health, nutrition, child development, safety, and disease management.
  10. Maintain timely and accurate electronic health record documentation and coding consistent with organizational, regulatory, and payer requirements.

Clinical Schedule and Administrative Time

  • Full-time physicians are expected to provide approximately 36 hours of direct patient care per week.
  • Physicians will receive approximately 4 hours of protected administrative time weekly for chart completion, care coordination, quality improvement activities, patient communications, and other administrative responsibilities.
  • Typical patient encounters include:
    • Well-child visits
    • Same-day sick visits
    • Follow-up visits for chronic disease management
    • Developmental and behavioral health assessments
    • Transitional care and care coordination visits
  • Average patient volume is expected to support organizational productivity standards while maintaining high-quality, patient-centered care.

Quality and Team-Based Care: As a member of IBCC's Patient-Centered Medical Home, the Pediatrician will:

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives focused on pediatric preventive services, immunization rates, developmental screening, and chronic disease management.
  • Attend provider meetings, care team huddles, and clinical trainings.
  • Support organizational efforts related to HEDIS, UDS, value-based care, and patient experience measures.
  • Collaborate closely with Family Medicine, Behavioral Health, Dental, Care Management, and Specialty Care providers to ensure coordinated care for pediatric patients and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possesses license to practice medicine in the State of California.

2. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Primary Care Physician.

3. Two years experience as provider in an outpatient clinic, preferably community based.

4. Excellent communication and inter-personal and teamwork skills.

5. Able to relate to culturally diverse patients and community.

6. Bilingual (English/Spanish) very helpful.
