About the Role:
The Certified Dental Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting dental professionals to deliver high-quality patient care within a dental practice in Canada. This position involves preparing patients for dental procedures, assisting the dentist during treatments, and ensuring all instruments and equipment are sterilized and ready for use. The role requires maintaining accurate patient records and adhering to health and safety regulations to provide a safe environment for both patients and staff. The Certified Dental Assistant also educates patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care to promote overall dental health. Minimum Qualifications:
- Certification as a Dental Assistant recognized by a Canadian provincial regulatory body.
- Completion of an accredited dental assisting program.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and infection control standards.
- Ability to legally work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a dental office or clinical setting.
- Familiarity with dental practice management software.
- Additional certifications such as Radiography certification or Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) designation.
- Strong communication skills in both English and French.
- Continuing education in dental assisting or related fields.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare treatment rooms and ensure all dental instruments and materials are sterilized and organized before procedures.
- Assist dentists during various dental procedures by handing instruments, operating suction devices, and providing patient comfort.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as required, following safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment notes and medical histories.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques and post-operative care instructions.
- Manage inventory of dental supplies and notify management when reordering is necessary.
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and workplace safety standards.
- Schedule patient appointments and assist with administrative duties as needed.
