Job Description
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team. This position will be responsible for accounting functions for four companies. This role is essential to ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, and management, with the ability to oversee the entire accounting function and provide strategic financial guidance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Analysis
· Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for Star Composites and its subsidiaries in accordance with GAAP, to ensure integrity and accuracy of financial records to maintain proper internal controls over financial transactions.
· Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
· Excellent understanding of accounting rules and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
· Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
· Issue timely and complete financial statements.
· Coordinate the preparation of annual reports for four companies.
Budgeting and Forecasting
· Develop and manage the annual budget process.
· Advanced knowledge and experience with spreadsheets.
· Assist in preparation of financial plans, outlooks, and forecasts.
· Monitor and update financial forecasts regularly and report significant issues to management.
· Provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making, for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiation.
General Accounting
· Perform general ledger analysis to ensure integrity and accuracy of financial records to maintain proper internal controls over financial transactions for Star Composites and its subsidiaries.
· Prepare general ledger account analysis and reconciliation, perform month-end close procedures, and executes all accounting activities such as planning and reporting, and special project analysis.
· Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
· Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
Internal Controls and Compliance
· Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
· Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
· Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
· Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Team Leadership and Development
· Must project a cooperative and positive attitude toward customers, employees and the Company.
· Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support.
· Identify training and development needs for the team.
· Works as a team member and co-operates with co-workers.
Financial Strategy and Planning
· Collaborate with senior management to develop and execute financial strategies.
· Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business growth and profitability.
· Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes.
General
· Must comply with all environmental, quality and safety rules, practices and standards.
· Ability to work independently.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
· Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory roles.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP and SOX polices and requirements as well as in depth experience in the practical application of those requirements and financial reporting standards.
· Proficiency in accounting software (Oracle) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems.
· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· High attention to detail, problem solving skills, and strong organizational skills.
· Skilled in all aspects of Sales Accounting, Cost Accounting, General Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Fixed Asset Accounting, both from a general standpoint as well as in the SAP integrated enterprise system.
· Proficient in all aspects of Cost Management (Cost Reduction), including functional techniques such as weight or function cost tables and cost targeting.
· Proficient in the use and application of Excel, Word, and Hyperion software.
· Broad-based knowledge of both Book and Tax depreciation policies, procedures, and laws.
· Broad-based knowledge of Sales & Use Tax laws.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks in an organized manner. Patience, persistence, and problem solving skills are very important.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms with prolonged period of sitting at a desk in front of a computer. The employee may occasionally climb or balance and stoop or kneel. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee will be in and out of the plant which is a non-climate-controlled environment.
