About This Position
Key Responsibilities:
- Academic Advising:
- Meet with current and prospective students to deliver accurate and up-to-date information on undergraduate curricula and program requirements.
- Assist students in short-term and long-term academic program planning to ensure a timely graduation.
- Guide students through the course registration process, including adding and dropping classes.
- Student Support:
- Provide assistance to students experiencing academic difficulties by offering strategies for improvement and connecting them to relevant resources.
- Address personal challenges by referring students to appropriate offices within the School of Engineering and the University.
- Retention and Recruitment:
- Actively participate in retention and recruitment activities, including high school visits, community college outreach, career fairs, and on-campus events such as Engineering Explore Day and Transfer Visit Days.
- Engage in activities that promote the School of Engineering and its programs to prospective students.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate computerized and in-office student records, ensuring compliance with university policies.
- Assist in the graduation evaluation process, verifying students’ academic progress toward degree completion.
- Communication and Information Dissemination:
- Keep students informed about curriculum changes, important academic dates, and deadlines.
- Promote campus-wide student success resources and facilitate student access to these services.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of advising practices and policies.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned to support the mission and goals of the School of Engineering.
Salary Information:
Advisor I $42,500
Advisor II $45,500
Minimum Qualifications:
- This position requires a minimum of a master's degree in higher education or a related field.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills are necessary.
- Previous experience in advisement and student counseling and knowledge of University policies and procedures are preferred.
- Familiarity with multicultural, cognitive, social and other developmental concepts are desirable.

Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status.
