Agricultural Nursery Workers will handle a range of tasks related to soil preparation, plant cultivation, and general horticultural care. Their responsibilities include preparing growing areas by hauling, spreading, digging, raking, and mixing media to create an optimal environment. They will cover and fill cold frames and greenhouses in preparation for planting. Workers will haul, plant, spray, weed, water, prune, trim, shape, and space plants, applying granular or liquid fertilizers as needed. Additionally, they will tie, bunch, wrap, and pack trees and shrubs to fulfill orders, loading them onto trucks as required. In both greenhouse and outdoor production areas, workers will transplant seedlings and liners into containers and arrange them in designated growing areas.

Throughout the contract, duties may shift depending on crop conditions and types. General tasks include preparing soil, planting, pruning, deadheading, pinching, shaping, spacing, fertilizing, shipping products, cleaning work areas, and transporting plant materials within the greenhouse. Other associated commercial greenhouse duties may also be required. Between harvests, workers may perform additional tasks to prepare crops, unload, and restock items for storage. Crops handled in these operations include bedding plants, annuals, perennials, roses, mums, succulents, vegetables, foliage, and poinsettias.
For bedding plants, workers will fill flats with potting soil, stack them for transport to planting areas, plant plugs or seedlings, tag the flats with appropriate labels, water manually, and place them in growing areas for finishing. In propagation and liner tasks, workers will prepare flats with potting soil, transport them to planting areas, insert cuttings or plant plugs and seedlings as directed, tag the flats, and ensure all necessary horticultural needs are met. For potted plants and hanging baskets, workers will fill pots or baskets with potting soil, plant transplants according to supervisor specifications, water the completed containers, and place them in the growing area. They may also be required to install hangers and tags on pots or baskets and may insert watering tubes into containers to aid in the irrigation process.
These comprehensive duties help support plant growth and productivity within both greenhouse and outdoor settings, ensuring a consistent quality and supply of plants across different crop types and stages of growth.

Job Requirements: Fieldwork begins at assigned time usually shortly after daylight. Work is performed during light rain and in high humidity and in temperatures ranging
from 100 (+) degrees to below 35 degrees F. Workers will work on their feet in bent, stooped, and crouched positions for long periods of time. Workers will make fast, simple,repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists. Workers must be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs. Workers will use muscles to lift,push, pull, or carry heavy objects, such as potted plants. These could/will weigh 50 lbs.
