About This Position
The Olive Wendell Holmes Library (OWHL) at Phillips Academy is looking for an Instructional & Electronic Resource Librarian. This position is a key member of the OWHL instructional team who participates in our liaison program and provides leadership and expertise in acquiring an integrating electronic resources into the library's collections. In addition, this position is a member of the collection development team and helps staff the at the Welcome Desk.
The instructional Librarian responsibilities will constitute roughly 70% of the librarian's workload, and the Electronic Resource Manager responsibilities will comprise the remaining 30%. This is an .75 FTE (full time), salaried position working during the academic school year. The schedule for this position will primarily work on Sundays from 12pm to 8pm and 9am to 5pm Monday through Thursday.
This is a dual position in which the Librarian will work as the Electronic Resource Manager and collaborate with the Head of Collections and Access Services
The ideal candidate must possess:
- Experience in providing reference services and conducting one-on-one reference interviews.
- Awareness of current issues in the electronic resources' lifecycle, including acquiring, licensing, and managing access to electronic resources.
- Knowledge of major databases and experience using COUNTER, JSON, SUSHI, or other reporting software to collect, analyze, interpret, and present usage of electronic subscriptions to the library team.
- Ability to communicate about current information and emerging technologies. Willingness to work in a team environment.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Availability to work weeknights and weekends.
- An aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies and systems.
- Experience working with teens and understand their mindset, academic needs, and interests.
Qualifications required:
- Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines from an accredited institution: library and information science, history, or social science.
- Three to five years of experience in, and enthusiasm for, developing and teaching effective library instruction sessions and curricula.
