Tooling/Mould Setup

We are looking for a Tooling/Mould Set Up Technician to join our Team. Mold technicians create and develop new moulds to be used in the rubber forming process.

The successful candidates will be responsible to help manufacture our product in support of our principles of safety, quality and on time delivery.

This role requires candidates to work a 12 hr continental shift pattern which means two weeks of day shift that switches to 2 weeks of night shift. (Week one is 36 hrs; week two is 48 hrs). This shift rotation requires candidates to work every 2nd weekend and will be compensation with generous shift premiums.

Please note: Polycorp is not located on a bus route. Reliable transportation is required.

Position Details:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mold technicians are responsible for ensuring tooling and molds are properly maintained. Regular inspection and damage repair is required.
  • Assist with setting up equipment to ensure moulds fit correctly per customer requirement.
  • Tasks for this role include: drilling, tapping, oxy acetylene torching, plasma cutting, and arc and mig welding. Candidates are required to have this experience.
  • Using the following: cranes, forklifts, drummels, impacts, drills and various air tools. Candidates without this experience will not be considered
  • Technical skills – mold makers need to be able to inspect products and select the right equipment, tools, and measuring devices for the job, so technical skills are important to this role
  • Using blueprints supplied by our design team, mold makers plan the molds they need to create by following instructions and engineered drawings.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Diploma/Degree or equivalent working experience.
  • Candidates from trades programs such as automotive, millwright, etc will also be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in an industrial machine shop with metals and rubbers

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Candidates need to be mechanically inclined and can demonstrate a proven history of working with heavy equipment such as hot presses, overhead cranes, welding, forklifts
  • It is a requirement to understand tolerances, measuring equipment, impacts of heat on tolerancing, pressure , etc.
  • Blueprint reading and demonstrated knowledge of CAD programs/drawings is required.
  • Previous experience working in a mechanical role such as Press Operator is preferred.
  • Communication skills – mold makers often work as part of a team so excellent communication and team working skills are essential
  • Time management – mold makers should be able to manage their time effectively and with minimal supervision to ensure tight deadlines are met.
  • Problem-solving abilities – this job requires the ability to identify problems during a task and find or develop solutions to them.
