POSITION SUMMARY: The Junior Accountant to perform a variety of accounting duties on Revenue Accounting Team. This role reports to the Accounting Manager and is part of a team responsible for the accounting and decision-support for all revenue from government contracts, private fundraising, and revenue from the organization’s national expansion. This includes government contract billing and collections, budgets, and audits. This is a customer facing role that requires excellent organization skills and attention to detail. This role works closely with the Staff Accountant I and is back up for that position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, or annual invoices in accordance with contract terms and deadlines. This includes government contracts, fundraising contracts, and contracts related to the organization’s national expansion.
  • Verify contract specific cost allocations and review GL coding for accuracy, correcting or removing unallowable expenses as needed. Coordinate within Finance and with other departments across the organization to ensure correct coding of both revenue and expenses. Ensure all appropriate backing documentation for each invoice is in place.
  • Process entries to record revenue in the accounting system, reconcile balances (current month and year-to-date) to the general ledger monthly.
  • Update contract tracking spreadsheet with actual or estimated invoice amounts; coordinate with program managers on spending and answer questions about amounts remaining on individual contract lines.
  • Review accounts receivable aging on a regular basis and follow up on outstanding balances. Develop collaborative relationships with contacts at government agencies to facilitate timely collection of balances due.
  • Assist with preparation for government contract audits including preparation of audit schedules and collection of supporting documentation.
  • Complete other tasks and projects as needed.
  • Act as back up for the Staff Accountant I

Qualification and Requirements:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in an accounting position; experience with accounts payable or accounts receivable preferred.
  • Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications. Experience with MIP (Sage) and Concur a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively across an organization.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Aptitude to learn and grow within the team.
  • Must be able to pass a Community Care Licensing background check
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work and some travel as needed.
